I’m trying to decide if I should move to Aus.
Tell me - where would you emigrate to? Have you emigrated? Did you ever think about it? If not, why not? Dream destination?
I personally think I might be too much of a homebody to make the move. But I’ve lived in Newcastle over ten years now and part of me wants adventure.... |

I’m originally from South Africa but been here 20 years now. I think if I was to go anywhere, I’d probably try France... always loved the idea of having a chateau but it seems to be the in thing at the moment. Damn that Dick and Angel |

"I’ve lived in Japan, the USA and Germany. Out of the three, Germany caused me the biggest headaches..."
My older brother lives in Germany and loves it and my younger brother lives in Norway. |

Spent half my life abroad. I'm only here because my sons are, I'd quite happily emigrate again. Little Britain, for all its popular culture and centuries of history.. isn't filled with the warmest or most welcoming inhabitants if I'm brutally honest. |

As soon as my children have flown the nest I'm gone
my parents live near Carcasonne, France, it's not an exciting area
Gothenberg is beautiful. Greek islands very laid back but think I'd happily settle in Italy

I love to travel and visit different countries, but not sure that I would want to emigrate.
I like the UK and find most people in most countries are generally nice and friendly...including the UK.
In fact, I rather like the idea of retiring to the NE coast, Durham or Northumberland. |

I really like Croatia having seen much of the place, it's a beautiful country that seems to have got past much of its turbulent past now. Don't know if I'd live there permanently but would be happy to spend a year or more living there. |

I am in deep conversations with wife about buying a house in France. I have the cash for a small house in the Limousin area and cash to renovate to a nice standard.
Then I intend to do trips to France buying antique furniture to bring back to the U.K. to sell |

I have heard good things about that part of the world. Planning a visit for spring. |

All over the place! Northwesr, , Southwest |
Were it not for the awful wages and lack of professional autonomy, i'd still be living in Portugal and specifically the Algarve. The weather is brilliant, beaches are lovely, food (especially seafood) and wine are magnificent. The country is safe and has low levels of crime. Most everyone is very hospitable and most of the younger people speak some english. Cost of living is low compared to UK standards and average purchasing power. |

"Been on oz when I was in my early to mid 30s. For me I think unless your in early to mid 20s is just not worth it.
Interesting! Why?" its realy hard to get a start out there. The younger you are the better chance you have of making a life for yourself out there. But is a beautiful country but couldn't get a break because of my age. |

I've travelled extensively over the years and the North east is home, great to get back but it's lovely to travel especially for a few weeks! Live it as opposed to just being a tourist, if you know what I mean - better to stay with family or friends and experience the real culture!
YOLO - get out there and do it! |

Ah that’s a shame. The visa system is geared towards youths. I’m lucky that my vocation is fairly in demand. |

Berlin, or at least close by. Big fan of post-modernist architecture. Also like the Bauhaus movement and style. (And the band, funnily enough). Too many clubs to frequent, and a massive alternative music-scene.
On the flipside, New Zealand. If things had panned out, should have been living there by now, specifically Christchurch. But plans all fell through. On a positive note, we dodged a major and terrible earthquake in the area some years later where we were looking to settle. Funny thing is fate ![](/icons/s/biggrin.gif) |

When I was a child our family moved to Kenya and I grew up there. So grateful for the experience.
Remember the world is a smaller place these days and travelling back wouldn't be so difficult
