Sorry Lola - can’t believe I missed a thread on this. Huge fan!
Been watching it again after years. So much more to pick up on - the foreshadowing is extraordinary.
Fave line (slightly paraphrased, I think) is from Prop Joe:
“If it wasn’t for your brother Segei here, you’d be some cadaverous “mother******s”. |

"Bodie - "This game is rigged man, we like them little bitches on the chessboard" "
So good. Call back to D’Angelo teaching the kids chess in season 1, but also Bodie realising he’s in a losing battle, and not getting out of it. |

Did you hear Wendell Pierce on Desert Island Discs, L.
As a The Wire obsessive, I’m guessing you have. It’s extraordinarily good.
One thing I love about The Wire was how my thoughts on who was the best actor change regularly (best of the best, really!).
It’s been Omar a lot, and Bubbles too. Wee-bay is underrated (Hassan Johnson). Currently in a Bunk phase . |

As an acting performance marlo Stanfield.
I dont usually have emotions about TV characters. It's just a TV.
But Jamie hector made me HATE marlo.
He did an amazing job, joined half way through an already critically acclaimed show and lead the narrative.
The character embodied all the worst parts of the drug pins in Co op whilst having no real character himself.
It's criminal how little you see of all those actors uouu see in other shows
But saying who you like best is like saying who is you favorite child.

I did I'm in an Uncle Zuck Wire group and it was mentioned a lot. At the moment our group is going crazy over the success of the Baltimore Ravens, my NFL team. In the whole of the Wire there's only one mention of the franchise (which has only existed since 1997) when Tommy Carcetti is trying to get rid of Burrell and he says "They're acting like I put Ray Lewis out to pasture!' Ray Ray was part of the original draft and by the time he retired he was considered by many to be the greatest linebacker to play the game. But the only shirt I've seen in The Wire is the Eagles one Namond wears. It's just lovely sharing the joy with people who live in the city and seeing the pics people post of pit beef sandwiches and church crowns it's one of my favourite groups and there's never any arguing |

I still think it's the best TV I've ever seen.
I remember a TV critic writing that he envied people who hadn't seen it yet because they still had the experience to come.
It was so wide ranging and showed the good and bad in all of us.
Omar was so cool. I genuinely felt sad when he died.
My favourite bit was the end of the first series when McNulty was in the shit and discussing what want would happen to him and said As long as it's not the River Police as I I hate boats. I'm sure the first scene of the second series was him on the River Police boat
Fabulous |

If you’ve never seen Butkus play - watch him on YT, he’s terrifying.

There's two kinds of people as far as The Wire goes; those of us who love it - and those who haven't seen it yet.
It is, by some distance, the best television police drama ever made and one of the top ten dramas of any kind.
For me, it's a toss up between Omar and The Bunk - but the thing about The Wire is that there are almost no characters in it that are of no significance at all; which is one reason why it's as excellent as it is.
Favourite line:
"You can’t even call this shit a war ... wars end.”
Sgt. Ellis Carver

Season 2 gets a lot of stick but I loved it. It's heartbreaking to see the docks decline. It contains the only moment in which Stan Valchek isn't a complete dick bag when he opens another picture of his well travelled surveillance van after Frank's death and whispers spoczywaj w pokoju (rest in peace). Frank wasn't perfect and he wasn't the greatest family man but he didn't deserve what happened to him. Ziggy's story is absolutely tragic |

Slim is one of my favourites. One of my absolute favourite lines is after Avon has let Cutty go and Slim says "He was a man in his time" and Avon replies "He a man today. He a man". That respect and acknowledgement isn't in Marlo, he's a false king because he doesn't love his people.
And oh I do love a nice church crown, some of them are just gorgeous. I looooove the scene in Reverend Read's church.. "can I preach it how I feel it?!"

Which series is this from? .
I loved series 2, although I slightly struggled with the way Ziggy got in so deep so quick. Still a stunning shift to look at the city from a very different angle.
“Church crown” is such a great term. I think Lola would look hot wearing one

Agreed on the court. Actually, the more I revisit it the more I think Levy deserves to be mentioned alongside Omar, Bunk, Bubbles etc. |

A much more likeable character. I liked his acting in both shame we didn't see more of him.
Season 2 does cop alot of grief but its the set up to the entire ending of the wire.
After I finished the show I immediately went back to seakn2 and all those parts are didn't enjoy first time opened up on another level |

"Right - it’s definitely not me. It’s changing the word I write after I press “post message”
It's blocking out a word we're not allowed to say here. That stuff that goes in a grinder
OK, now I really need to know why that word can’t be said!
You know why, baby. Cos of the long arm of the you know what "
Nope, still don’t get why - I’m channeling Herc and his stupidity here!
Ah - is it because of the middle four letters? Bizarrely, another word featuring that “word within a word” got blocked last night too when I used it. Completely different context/ conversation! |

"Not quite sure how I managed to write “ty” as “ty” twice in that last post.
I’m sure there’s lots of others into it mind reader. Maybe only a few obsessive enough to keep posting quotes from a show that finished over 10 years ago though
Haha just us obsessives then
After watching all these clips my YouTube home page is full of clips that's all.
I'm not complaining tho. I'd rather watch a 10 year old show with then most of the guff on TV today
Some shows get under your skin and won't quit
Have you watched Madmen?
*raises a finger without looking at the waiter behind me* Gibson up! "
