Not all of us are lucky enough to have friends or family to spend Christmas with.

Anyone else in that position this year?

First time alone? Or are you a seasoned solitary festive veteran now?

I absolutely love spending Christmas Day alone.

This year, I’m going to have to go to my parents.

It will be fine but I’d prefer to spend it alone.

Whereabouts? Any ideas yet? I'd do that if I could afford it. I've got my sons either side of xmas day though, so not all bad.

I won't be alone as such But my children will be with their dad most of Christmas week in another city. I make sure I stay super busy and I know that they're happy where they are.

On a mooch

My lad will be with his dad this year 23-26, so we will have Christmas on 27 or 28 when he comes home.

Third time for me, it does get a bit easier but I will still ‘zone out’ come evening of 24 and re-emerge on 26

I'm not remotely sentimental, it's just a day. Its good their Dad is having them so long for a change. We'll just have a special day when they get back.

Us singletons tend to be abandoned at this time of year whilst everyone does the ‘family’ thing.

Don’t get me wrong, I will be spending some of it with my family but I find Christmas hard work and depressing. I just can’t get into at all - even if I do make the effort it tends to be for everyone else’s benefit. My mother would be mortified if she knew how I really felt. She’s already in ‘Deck the halls’ mode ....

I’m always pleased when it’s over but at least I can kick my heels for 3 weeks whilst on holiday.

I've got to the stage that being alone over Christmas doesn't really bother me.

I use to think that going abroad was the answer but I now wonder if being a solo traveller in a hotel with a whole load of couples/families is not worse than being home alone. At least at home I can pick and choose what festive activities I'm exposed to.

I guess that it is about finding a coping strategy that works for you.

Because they’ll be on their own, my brother and sister are spending it with in-laws this year, because they want me to, and because they’re in their 80’s and it could be their last Christmas.

I’ll drink all their liqueurs, eat all their food, get given loads of food and drink to take home and at least I won’t have to cook

I'll be alone by choice. I see my girlfriend in the morning, we'll do parkrun and I'll obviously see people there but after that I'll be alone and am quite happy spending it that way. Boxing day I'll be working from home for a double whammy of overtime and time in lieu which again I'm more than happy with with. Back to normal on the 27th, but new year I'll hopefully be done explaining to people how I spent Christmas and that it's okay with me!

I won't be lonely at Christmas, but I will be going to my mums for 3 days. However, I cannot go as myself as my mum does not accept me as trans. I have to go as male, and that gives me so much dysphoria. Wish me luck.

This is my first ever Christmas alone. My kids are with their dad for 10 days until 28th Dec. my parents are going on holiday and other family are away, or working.

I'm not particularly bothered, although it has completely dampened my spirit for decorating the house and indulging in Christmas baking.

Alone here too, Christmas and New Year by choice.

I've never been a fan of it. Too much greed, over indulgence, preparation and stress.

I've been promising myself to opt out for years, and now my children are all grown and have partners, I feel I can finally do it.

I've apologised in advance to them for my selfishness and they have been brilliant.
