I read about the Leeds one, it's in an industrial area. It's not as safe for the women as is made out and but they are more likely yo report crimes committed against them.
I don't really think we need it, the laws are relaxed enough.

I had friends in Selly Oak and we'd often divert past Cherry Road and Varden to view the windows whenever we went over that way.
They used to be there at lunchtimes too, waiting for business from city workers. They always seemed really old but I would have only been in my teens/early20s at the time.
I guess the houses were owned/rented by pimps. It was actually Muslim community groups that put a stop to it with vigilante patrols on the streets. The police couldn't ignore it anymore after that. As far as I'm aware, street prostitution is dead in Birmingham, although still fairly prevalent in Walsall & Wolves. |
