Cashless society

I think people will be very resistant to it. If it ever does come about I suspect that people will find alternative ways of paying. Maybe a plumber will charge less but you happen to have a spare crate off beer, joint of beef and two frozen chickens you don't want. |

How do we then help small charities? Give the kids a bit of cash to buy their own stuff in shops... remember the first time teaching up to the counter & handing over your precious pennies for whatever? Not quite the same as wafting your preloaded plastic over a reader...not a reason in itself, but.... |

So returning to the age old practice of bartering |

Was in North Sweden during summer, and the 3 of us were the only people using cash,
Barman told me we were first people that week to buy beer with cash, local at the bar heard him and said that he missed the whole cash thing within their society, weirdly Japan is all cash, being such a fwd country I found that weird, |

A version of it, yes. If a trade smoked they might accept £50 worth of baccy to keep their tax bill and their Bill to the customers down.
Not sure how other black market type activities would operate but I'm sure ways would be found |

Some places here are card only.
Makes sense, a lot of businesses don’t really consider the overheads cash has.
I don’t by in to the whole big brother thing but it might have repercussions for debt in society. |

Terrible idea
My second job is paid in cash, and it gives me spending money for the week.
As a result, I can leave my bank account alone to deal with bills and direct debits and have cash on me for smaller purchases. I will be very sorry to lose that |

It is a very rare occasion these days that I will use cash, even our local corner shop accepts cards if you spend over a fiver, the only time I really ever have cash on me is if we have a charity day at work and I buy a raffle ticket or a bit of cake |

You'd see an awful lot more people going hungry etc, without gas and electricity
For example, something has gone tits up this month and I'm now over my agreed overdraft limit, I call on my dad or friend to borrow £20 so I can put some electric in the meter or food in the fridge, if they can only send it to my bank account and not lend it me in cash then it will merely reduce how much I'm over my overdraft limit rather than actually help until I get paid.
Can't see the homeless being thrilled

"Before we can have a cashless society we need 100% high speed internet coverage.
Corbyn will sort that out apparently "
Well as I said when I was hoping to be compensated for the six extra years I'm having to wait for my state pension "he's got to get in first" |

By then our government will make bartering illegal and if you get caught you will be fined and the money will just come direct from your card. |

But both are untenable for funding |

There was a bartering system in place a few years ago, where a plumber would get credits for doing a job and would be able to use them for say getting a haircut or buying a phone etc. But the government shut it down as they weren’t getting any revenue. |

Belgium is massively cash too. Reason being that income tax is stupidly high, so a lot of firms just pay people cash in hand to avoid it?
The only negative about this is that you sometimes have quite a trek to the nearest cashpoint if you're not in Brussels (even other big cities such as Antwerp for example) as many wages don't even touch a bank account so the public have less need of them?

Isn't cash in hand illegal if it's to avoid tax? |

Only 8% of the world's wealth is physical cash, a proportion of the remainder exists only on a hard drive, but the vast majority of the world's wealth doesn't actually exist at all.
If everyone was to empty their bank accounts, if every bank and business was to call in their debts the entire global human civilisation would collapse. |

And these same people could also collapse from hunger when the corrupt few who control the world has the power to stop card payments and bring a country to its knees because cash is worthless and the electronic means dont work. Think about that..
Or does no one else think or believe this can happen?? |

I agree. Look at the chaos caused when banks computer systems go down for a single day, and that is with the existence of cash. |

Just think on what will happen when the card systym is delibertly put out of action by some control freak who wants to control the world and no one is able to buy anything.
Hunger is a great way to de populate the world.

"Bad news for homeless people, but good news if you don't fancy giving them any cash. "Have you got a card reader?"."
There wont be anywhere for the homeless to spend the cash in.
The shops wont take cash because the bank who are part of this world wide scam will charge very high fees for lodging cash.
They will also de value the £ that its totally worthless and bring out a new currency to replace it which will be card and electronic.
NO NOTES OR CASH!
This is the very near future.

Buskers in London often have card readers.
A charity electronic poster had card payment reader embedded to take donations

Hopefully the homeless can be moved into secure areas where they can be fed and cared for so they no longer need to sleep rough. |

I was in a bar a few weeks ago in Leeds , they only accepted card payments ..I can see the reason why. No cash on premesis to eliminate robberies . No cash to take to the bank and no worry of staff dipping their fingers in the till. However referring to the Bank of England website there's more cash in circulation now than in the history of cash. So I don't think we will ever be a cashless society |
