"How do you refocus and concentrate on what you should be doing, when your mind has gone off on a tangent and elsewhere ? "
Depends where it’s gone and for how long. Sometimes I need to escape for a little while so trust myself to go with the flow... |

Escaping for a little while is good, I do that, but think this is in for the day |

Take a break. Set an alarm for the end of said break. Get back to it. Make a cuppa / drink some water.
In extreme cases, and where possible, go have a wank.
That's my methodology anyway. |

I’ll follow this with interest as In(the man half) find it very difficult to concentrate. I’m pretty good in a crisis though, but sometimes things become a crisis because I haven’t sorted them earlier. |

Tried a break, tried a chat change of topic, neither worked.... haven’t tried last option, could work |

Some days you just can't be on top form. Peaks and troughs are normal... |

I get a cup of coffee or tea. Change to a different room if necessary and focus on the thing I should be doing. The trick is to shift position for me. Changes the energy and my mind follows. |

I can normally focus and usually the sane one in a crisis and someone who others turn to when need to focus.... today I’m the ditsy, brain all over the place |

"Close your eyes, empty your brain and breathe deeply for 60 times
Every time I close my eyes I see what I’m trying to forget "
Did you google rainbow shower or something? |

I keep my objectives in mind, so if a reality check shows that what I'm doing isn't helping me to fulfill my objectives, I stop what I'm doing.
I may need to relax - so do this. Remind myself why my objectives are important, to rekindle my motivation. Seek help, if I need it. Exercise is my killer way to reenergise and reset my focus - subject to any time constraints. Alternatively, brief contact with nature works well for me |

Thanks Doc, I’ve been shifting position most the day, think going to have to just admit defeat and let the mind wander |

"I dont i find it hard to focus unless i set myself a target but it has to be something i really want to be worth it"
I don’t normally. If I have a target I normally will meet it as hate failing, but today it’s not going to happen |

No, no.... I didn’t know what that meant and now I had to google, I will never learn
That’s definitely something I don’t want to remember but has got me refocused on the job at hand...so a gold star for achieving that, but a slap for spoiling my thoughts and replacing it with that !! |

I recently bought a book called Uni Life Hacks. Almost all the advice in it can be applied to every day life and there's a great section on beating procrastination (as well as a million other pieces of noteworthy advice!) It's absolutely worth investing in, if only for the section about beating hangovers |

"Surprised no one talked about meditation in this long thread.
Not something I’ve done, but that wouldn’t have worked for me today "
It's something you have to do regularly. Helps you long term to be focused. |
