have you been a party to any?

having read a thread on here that someone had very distinct views on something, and they are wrong, it reminded me of many years ago when i first started going out with my ex wife.

i was 20, she 15, and when i mentioned it at work, an African lad said i was capable of murder because i was seeing someone so young.

i mean, really??? lol.

have you been a party to anyone views that you have thought 'get over yourself, dumbfcuk!' lol

quite often when i was younger had some strange assumptions made about me. thankfully people are less lightly to stigmatize people these days

Odd as a lot of other countries are very relaxed where age is concerned, it is only in this country where we are not

No. I don't think 'get over yourself' or ' dumbfuck'

Opinions are varied due to life circumstances, experiences and accrued knowledge.

The dumbfuck will have been you at times depending on time and circumstance.

I used to believe in Father Christmas.

But it's ok for a 40 year old to date a 35 year old? Or a 25 year old to date a 20 year old? What's the difference? A 15 year old is immature, and under the age of consent? Don't agree with that, a lot of the 15 year olds I do voluntary work with could teach a lot of older people about life and sex.

It's a social thing though isn't it?

The turn of the 19th century girls were married and having their first baby at 13/14.

Now that's illegal, and I'm in no way saying that is a bad thing, but it's all about perception. In 100 years time, we might be seeing today's laws and behaviour as barbaric as we see the 19th century now.

As a father of two young girls I can say that the word 'boyfriend' makes me shudder as it is (and they're still at the age where they think tinkabell rocks). If one announced at 15 that they wanted to bring their 20 year old boyfriend home I'd start planning a new patio.

I know that many of you will think I'm old fashioned and out of touch but having thought about it for a bit, that's my feeling on the subject.

I don't think you are old fasioned at all! I think you are a father who has just tried to think about how he would handle a hypothetical situation! I think quite a few fathers (and mothers) tend to think that way when the kids are growing up, but once they get to "that" age...

As the kids grow, we as parents attutudes change. OK, not all, but I certainly did! I trusted our daughter to make good decisions because we had brought our kids up to be open and honest. Our daughter even asked me (dad) to go to the doctors with her at age 15, to get the pill!

Then, when they get to 28 and are still at home, you actively go out trying to find blokes of any age to take em off your hands!!

What if she's one day away from being 16 and he was 19 the day before ?

OR Is it okay if they are not having sex ?

ok a 20 year old 'should know better'. But what's the difference if she went out with a 17/18 year old? He'll be after sex just as much.

As a 15 year old girl whoever you go out with they will try to get into your knickers.

At 15 I want my daughters to be focusing on their exams and enjoying what's left of their childhood, not being worried about making a 20 year old happy.

As things stand a 20 year old could end up on the sex offenders register for even trying to have sex with a 15 year old.

I hear all the arguments, the what if this and that. There are aleays exceptions to the rule and The OP is a case in point as he and his girlfriend got married. But still, I am applying for my gun license all the same.

I respect that, because as a father it's your job to protect your daughters.

But my point is that younger boys will be pestering them just as much about sex. They should be scared by you just as much haha

Very good point! Their peers will be trying to deflower them constantly! It is what young (and not so young) boys do! Make em get in early? They have break times and the walk home from school. Forbid them from going out in the evenings? I used to love Saturdays with my girlfriends..

We can only educate them and hope they make the right choices. We may have been lucky, but I believe that we taught them right and supported them correctly..

I think in the end it's the girls choice, even if it's a stupid one.

I had a 17 year old boyfriend when I was 15 and he kept on pestering me about sex. I wasn't ready and staid strong. He left me after a few months. His loss.

I had no father at home and was out and about till late hours. No one ever really told me not to do it. Every girl is different I guess.

You are both right of course and hey, I was both 15 and 20 THAT'S WHY I HAVE SLEEPLESS NIGHTS because of this subject.

I just think that in my 50's I will still be able to scare the crap out of a horny 15 year old boy.

I'm still building a tower and buying a dragon so it's a mute point really.

really? lol, would you be happy if you had a 15 year old daughter and she was getting banged off a 20 year old lad?

would it be ok if they were 14 then? 13? whers the line you draw?

aye but 15 to 17 could be like just over a years age difference, where 20 is like 5 years plus, they are proper adults where the 15 year old is still at school.

the 17 year old could be old school mate from year above, so its somewhat understandable and they arnt really that much of a different age

the 20 year old was leaving as they started secondory school. they already near enough classed as adults, should be working by then in alot of cases living as an adult, they should really know better not to mess with girls who are underage due to the law. if they were 16 i wouldnt have that much of a problem, maybe if i was a parent i wouldnt really like it too much but cant really stop it, where if they were underage i'd feel like the 20 year old guy should know better and at least wait till they are legal etc before going there. its not really right even if it happens, i could never be happy with it if it happened to any my own family if i had some one day or was happening to my little sister

and ive no problem with age gaps last year was going out myself with a 20 year old, but do think a line has to be drawn somewhere, and might as well use the one the law provides.

fair does if ones only just over and other is just under, but 5 years is too much, i dont think anyone from 18+ should be going out with a 15 year old

Oh dear.

No one mentioned SEX.

No one said 'BANGED' as you beautifully put it.

We were discussing a 20 year old 'going out' with a 15 year old.

Regardless of whether they are having sex or not (tbh how many 20 yr olds will be in a sexless relationship?) it's still completely unacceptable.

and this is where opinions are like arseholes lol.

i had to deal with the whole paedophile thing when we started going out (and i didnt immediately know she was that age, as she looked older, but then dont most young women these days).

she had a couple of relationships and got abused by them, and they were her own age, whereas i treatd her right, got on well with her parents, eventually, and we had 11 mostly happy years together.

so, those of the opinion that people should stick to thier own age group need to think on this.

would you rather your daughter go out with a horny 16/17 year old lad, who think of nothing but getting into her pants, or would you rather she be 'looked after' by a young man, thats older than your ideals, and be happy for longer?

your choice, but seeings as Em has lads of that age, i know which of her kids i would want to see with my 15 y.o daughter (if i had one, and it would be the 25 year old lad NOT the 17 year old.
