Tongue in cheek response, but cmon F1 is no more a sport than fly fishing....the drivers are told to hold back? Where's the sport in that.... |

Humans have to drive the cars- duh . And yes the car is a big factor but the driver makes all the difference especially in this monumentally complex age. The Ferrari have had the fastest car for a while but the drivers make stupid mistakes , Hamilton rarely makes mistakes and his race craft means he has won 6 world titles |

Combination of car and driver if you know anything about the sport. Hamilton is the most successful British driver of all time and actually matured into a not too bad a guy.
Kudos to him. Armchair critics can go hang.

Correct, it’s all PR and publicity. It’s like Pogba at United, he sells millions of shirts, is just about above average as a player but it’s revenue for the business to sustain itself hence the reason why he plays |

Ok, then who turns the car around corners, through chicanes, or avoids other competitors cars & drivers, course hazards and through differing climate conditions?
Not a computer, but a human being. |

It's not a sport if you don't have to change out of your ordinary shoes to compete. Anybody can drive a car while wearing a pair of loafers.
Once Extinction Rebellion take over they'll all be racing in pedal cars anyway. |

Of the races I’ve attended my faves have been; Austin , Texas , grandstand seats at Turn 1-an amazing corner and the yanks really know how to put on a show. British GP @ Becketts- another mind blowing series of corners and nothing beats a home Grand Prix; and then at the bottom of Eau Rouge at Spa - such a steep, blind hill/corner. Watched vettel towing up the hill behind Hamilton @nearly 200 mph only inches behind him but he was too close to get the slingshot whilst on the next straight due to Hamilton’s clever tactics |

Not that much into Formula 1, but can appreciate the skill level needed to drive an F1 car and the engineering behind it.
I prefer road racing cars, rallying and bikes.
Different skillsets, different mindsets. All very technical in their own right.
More behind it than we realise. The people who drive all of these vehicles are athletes, they train their bodies not only because of weight restrictions, but because they need a disciplined focused mindset.
Unless you are John McGuinness... Bug then he is old school.

The point still stands you dont have to change footwear to play football.

I have a huge amount of respect for the way that Hamilton handles himself on and off the track. His relationship with the other drivers and authorities is quite something in itself!
He receives an awful lot of undue criticism in my opinion, you can't win 6 World titles without being very, very, very good. |

F1 driver- has 100mph crash and tries to run back to the pits to get ready to go out again
Footballer- trips over something that’s not there and you’d think the air ambulance was needed. Now there’s something that shouldn’t be on the ‘sport’ pages |

Genius...& exactly my point you can boil any sport down & it is all meaningless, but the ability & skill is hidden in many cases & in even the most 'unsportlike' sports. Having watched Synchro swimmers train for local/county level competition, although often mocked they work very hard & are massively skilled & athletes to rival any/many others in more 'accepted' sports. |

I think there's definitely still an element of our press that doesn't like to see a black man as top dog in a "white man's world" and they'll continue to portray him how they see fit."
He's mixed race.
Its probably more to do with him being a bit of a cocky knob head for his first couple of years in F1- never popular with the general public.
Luckily he grew up, chilled out and seems to generally be a much nicer and more relaxed in himself these days...which also helped improve his driving massively. |

Regardless of technology you still have to be very skilled to drive an F1 car to the limits and win constantly.
When I was testing bikes at a high level I was good flat out for possibly 5-10 laps then I would drop off a cliff.
I didn't have the required levels to sit on the machine for 30+ laps hitting the marks. I was fit enough but just didn't have what the very best riders had.
The difference between good and excellent is miles regardless of equipment.
Most of you would be completely shattered and possibly need help getting out of an F1 car after driving it for a few laps and most likely crash due to the sheer speed these things accelerate.
Same with Moto GP and even NASCAR racing. Those at the back of the grid are miles better than you could ever understand.
You don't just get in a drive. You're thinking ahead all the time, receive information and send it, braking at ridiculously dangerous speeds to make the apex or you get passed and lap is ruined. You have to be perfect every second one mistake you lose.
It's very easy to sit in you're armchair going ' i can do that, he's got the best car '.
Reality is you still got to be the very best to exploit the best equipment or its useless.
Hamilton does that, just like senna, mansell, prost and Schumacher before him.

Agreed. The forces on the driver are immense.
I was amazing how loud F1 is in real life when I went to Silverstone.
I do ride a motorbike too and agree that fast bike might be harder to ride than say an F1 car but in reality, both would take out of you.
To be honest, put most people on a fast bike or in a fast race car and they'd be sucking the seat up with their arse...
Formula One is one of the few sports I've been to that looks like it does on TV. Full of old men with hot women haha! |

I think a lot of the negative opinions Hamilton attracts is because he complains about things on the radio to the team. But again, the very best push everything to the limits and expect those around them to do the same. He wants to win.
Also I see a stereo type with the press coverage which raheem sterling gets.
No one's interested in his charity work or anything good he does. But as soon as he misses an open goal or something people/press are slagging him off yet he is a top performer for club and country.one of England's best players.
It's racism and should be called out as such.

Irony is year after he was abusive to many marshals.. next year at f1 he copied another famous racer and dropped off food and beer to the marshals campsite at Silverstone. |

Football is a bunch of overpaid racists and rapists tediously kicking a bag of wind up and down the same patch of grass for the amusement of knuckle dragging thugs.
I used to visit lots of factories and the amount of dullards who are totally lost for anything to talk about if you're not interested in football is hilarious. Everyone is a world bloody expert in tactics.
I've had the pleasure of been taken out in a two seater version of one of the formulas lower down from F1 and the physical exertion on your body just sitting there going from 50 to 180 and back to 50 within a few seconds, then round a hairpin, for 3 laps (and i wasn't driving) is immense as the G- forces shift you round and the weight of the helmet pushes your head back under accelleration or tries to snap it off when braking.
Do that for 60 laps, twice the distance, in torrential rain or blistering heat with split seconds between you and the next 5 drivers and sometimes millimeters from potential death with the slightlest lapse of concentration.
Footballers have to have a break after 45 minutes to check their hair is still looking stupid and the closest most come to a fatality is grass stains on their arse or running in to the upright as they ponce about doing a silly dance with their shirt over their head when they manage to score.
I'd love to see how athletic some are next to Jensen Button as they compete against him in a triathlon
Fianlly, at least with F1, the UK have won something in the last half a decade...in fact we're pretty fucking fantastic at it...how's the trophy cabinet at Wembley looking? |

Who's give a toss about his tax? As I said above, why would an international sports star live in a cold country during the winter months when he can live in the sun and keep more of his money?

If a Lewis Hamilton critic is non-white is that person still accused of racism?
If not then assuming that Lewis Hamilton critics are racist simply because they are white is by definition, racist logic. |

He's good at what he does.
Let's face it most celebs are overpaid for the actual benefit they offer to society.
But it is society that likes to spend money on people with these high level and limited skills.

Miss C knows him very well. They were next door neighbours and when Louis' folks got divorced Miss Cs mum would look after him so she knew him as a kid. He later referred to the area as a slum and Miss C gave him a piece of her mind and her tweet ended up in the Sunday times. He eventually went to live with his dad in WHC which was anything but a slum. So he may have gone to riches but didn't come from rags. |
