In the psychoanalytic theory of Jacques Lacan, ‘objet petit a’ stands for the unattainable object of desire. It is sometimes called the object cause of desire.
It’s the thing that we believe that if we had it we would be fulfilled. I’m over simplifying, but, what would your ‘objet petit a’ be? |

I'm trying to let go of desire altogether. It has all been unobtainable. The things I have achieved have not been the things I desired to achieve. The things I have desired, and not obtained, have made me miserable.

I'm am fortunate to have a close Buddhist friend. Letting go of attachment might be beyond me - I have a lot of things and I can't quite give them up.

No way, that could never happen.
That really would be THE END."
Exactly, the road runner is only the object cause of desire while he remains unobtainable! If he was caught the he would no longer be the object cause of desire. |

I don't think Road Runner is his objet petit a. It's the challenge of the chase, with the invention of new traps and devices.

I don't think Road Runner is his objet petit a. It's the challenge of the chase, with the invention of new traps and devices.

Yes, but it’s symbolised in the road runner. His joy or jouissance is in the chase and the inventions. But without the road runners he wouldn’t have a cause to do the things he loves.
He’d probably end up depressed after a few weeks of catching him. |
