Yes I competed to a decent level. I imagine you will be doing more of a get fit and have fun type thing. No need to worry about getting punched or kicked. So lots of fitness and cardio. Also learning techniques for power transfer using pads . It will be fun and knackering. Hope you enjoy |

My son has started it and loves it. His instructor competes and currently has two broken toes. When he demonstrates the moves everybody’s mouth is on the floor - it looks amazing, you wouldn’t think a leg could get that high!
Enjoy |

Good luck with it, can I come and watch you lick 7 bells out of someone sometime?"

"Some soreness initially but stick with it. Next day I loved that feeling
Develop a nice quiet confidence, fitness and hopefully you will meet some nice people. "
This is what I am hoping for. Having recently moved it would be great to get a new social circle |

"So in the class I went to half the class was warm up/fitness and the other half was pad work with a partner. Never had done any martial art before but it was challenging but not daunting"
Sounds ideal |

I don't think it's quite that literal
I've been told it's a similar body work out as when swimming (no idea but will find out tomorrow ) |

Thanks so much, I did some simple self defence years ago and enjoyed it, so it's kind of stepping it up a bit |

Used to. I kick boxed on and off for 3 years and did a short spell of mma.
I've been to a few different gyms and most have the same format.
Warm up most likely with Hiit of some sort, then stretching.
If it's a beginner specific lesson then the very basic moves with correct technique. Be prepared to do the basics a lot until they feel more natural. There may also be light sparring work with pads or one on one.
Then a cool down and light stretch at the end.
You will be sore and achy the following day, but it's good fun and great exercise.

I've started recently too. I like it a lot even tho I'm dreadful at it. The group I'm in don't ponce about or have that competitive legging thing going on that a lot of gym classes do.
I find it a brain ache trying to remember the names of the moves, the moves themselves and then (just when you get the hang of it) you switch sides.
Hope you enjoy it. |

A basic boxing stance is side on, left leg forward, right behind kind of in an L shape.
Switch is the same but right leg forward, left behind. |

Cheers "
I used to, expect to find pain in places you didn't think could ache ! (Not from kicks and punches but the stretching etc etc)
Seriously though if it's a good place they'll push you but not so far that you don't go back. |

Mixed martial arts and brazilian ju jitsu. but kickboxing was where it all started for me. your legs and arms will be tired but your brain will be buzzing. Not to mention tone up quite nicely too. I miss my six pack |
