Didnt know this but November 19th marks international mens day. Just read a thing that says men...

Constitute 66% of suicides

85% of homlessness

Are the victims of 70% of homicides

Victims of 40% domestic abuse

Are victims of most violent crime

Serve 64% longer prison sentences

92% of deaths in the work place

I’d like to see the healthy debate about this that other topics receive, but I wonder if anyone actually cares? I shall watch this one with interest.

I commented on another thread about it but thought it was like steak and blow job day, and made a flippant remark. I feel a twat now after reading the OP on here.

As the mum of two sons the statistics are worrying.

I think it's important to highlight the inequalities males face. Toxic masculinity is a very serious issue. With phrases such as man up and don't be a such a girl etc. These phrases don't help either gender in my opinion. I personally think we should strive for equality for all.

Quite bad but we really need to remember we've never had it so good, well apart from the suicides which are record highs but even then mainly only effect white Western men, so not all bad.

Yes, toxic masculinity and the patriarchy are detrimental to both sexes in different ways.

Just lets have more compassion and respect between us! X

Hahahahahaha

So the patriarchy oppresses men and women equally? It isnt matriarchal standard the pushes men to extremes to their own detriment in terms of suppressing emotions and hyper competitive ness?

I think its pretty clear to most adults that the idea the uk is a patriarchal society is hogwash.

Mature debate only please? Not crappy sub-undergrad feminist bilge

What is great is the campaign over the past few years. It ok to not be ok. It allows mental health issues to be talked about. If any one ever wants help or someone to listen. I wont turn them away

Whose ruffled your feather's? No one said anything about if affecting one gender more than the other. Only that it affects the different genders in different ways, and that one isn't better/worse than the other. And that we should strive for equality for all.

Very interesting statistics.

There's a real culture change with regards to the emotional needs of men of all ages. But sadly I think it's very difficult for men to take that first step for help, as it's what happens after that worries them, not the admission.

If you've ever performed or supervised roles that require mental focus and discipline in hostile environments, you'll know that the minute you admit you need help you're withdrawn and possibly isolated.

I hope each generation improves the welfare and happiness of its people. Seeing people endure those statistics proves life is hard without shoulders to lean on.

One thing that needs to be shown is that there are people who want to listen too. It's all good saying it's ok to not be ok, and that talking will help, but some people going through mental illness just don't want to burden others.

If any of you know someone going through a tough time please let them know that you want to listen.

I like a very masculine man, indeed I do. But to me, being able to show your emotions or cry has nothing whatsoever to do with masculinity. No way would I ever think oh what a wuss he’s upset. This is gradually changing and I hope it continues to do so. The amount of men suffering from domestic abuse is terrible and I do hope men will carry on talking about it and coming forward as seems to be the case more these days.

I noticed comments about male toxicity. I've distanced myself from friends who were toxic. Ones mettle should never be tested by the amount they can drink while snorting a gram of blow and picking a fight with ugliest prick on the night bus home. When I quit drinking for health reasons I lost of lot friends who I realised weren't friends. Just people to get pissed with. Soon as I changed my lifestyle i got called a pussy and ostracised. I regret nothing.

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

I'm glad to a man posted this thread this year.

The first year I was here I posted a thread for IMD and got a handful of responses. On IWD I got slated for posting a thread as it was considered to be anti-men to have IWD.

The theme is making a difference to for men and boys. Be positive role models.

Thank you, from me, to the men who are allies to women and girls - I appreciate it.

Heteronormativity isn't only toxic for women it hurts men enormously.

One in 6 men will experience domestic abuse; a fair amount at the hands of another man.

It is strength to ask for help but we bring up boys to think crying is bad or worse, a girl thing, and that they have to be strong and self-sufficient.
