The legendary Captain Dick, the creator of the Sourtoe cocktail, is dead.
Determined to become even more famous after departing this transient mortal existence, he has donated all ten of his Canadian toes to the Downtown Hotel in Sawson City, Yukon, where he created the Sourtoe.
The Sourtoe is a shot of whiskey (typically Yukon Jack) containing a mummified toe. You are inducted into the Sourtoe Cocktail Club (100,000 members and rising) if you down the shot AND allow the mummified toe to touch your lips whilst doing so.
Theft of cocktail toes is discouraged and the Downtown Hotel will pursue you for C$2500 (around £1900) if you make off with one.

Induction into the Sourtoe Cocktail Club
Step 1 – Come down to the Sourdough Saloon
Step 2 – Purchase a shot (most club members prefer Yukon Jack)
Step 3 – Pledge the ‘Sourtoe Oath’
Step 4 – Watch as a (genuine) dehydrated toe is dropped in your drink
Step 5 – Drink your Sourtoe Cocktail
Be sure to remember the most important rule:
