Do you think it's acceptable to discuss court cases on social media?

(Link to Trump court case is an example only.)

It's where the British public get all facts from, so where else?

We should leave justice to the impeccable criminal justice system, like in the Rotherham and Oxford Islamic r.a.p.e gang cases.

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

It depends where the case is at. The social media jury can prejudice a case. Think of Yaxley Lennon's arrest.

All over the place! Northwesr, , Southwest

Everything is fair game on social media these days so this isn't unexpected nor unsurprising.

It's complex. Anything posted on social media that could potentially influence the outcome of a criminal case eg. By disclosing information directly relevant to the case that may not be in the public realm or by detailing the previous convictions of the person on trial could influence a jury, for example, if it is likely they could see it. Social media/blog/forum moderators always have to be on top of this.

However, simply commenting on the case is generally acceptable outside of the restrictions above.

For that reason newspaper social media posts on ongoing trials will block comments

I think you'll find sir, that its inherently more reliable than the lynch mob alternative proposed by social media and many others!!

The media's the most powerful entity on earth. They have the power to make the innocent guilty and to make the guilty innocent, and that's power. Because they control the minds of the masses.

Exactly. Any system will make mistakes, both intentionally and through bad practice.

But at least a legitimate system has a form of redress and reconciliation.

I dont see that in the alternatives driven by emotive and subjective processes.

?

I think general discussion is fine, but not any details that are pertinent to either the defence or prosecution.
