"Can't believe I didn't like music for so long haha"

Glad that you have discovered the joy of music. I honestly struggle to understand how anyone can't enjoy music, there are so many genres, there surely has to be something for everyone.

Sorry, I can't suggest a guitar solo, but no doubt hubby will find the thread and make some suggestions.

Diagonally Parked in a Parallel Universe

There's some very fine guitar playing by Jan Akkerman in this live TV airing of Hocus Pocus, by Focus. The song is introduced by Gladys Knight and the band were told to cut their 6 1/2 minute song to 4 minutes. They didn't cut it. They sped it up

when Rafferty's 'Baker Street' is discussed most people cite the sax solo but the guitar solo which ends the track is a classic.

And as someone else noted: Gary Moore (RIP) and the live version of 'Parisian Walkways'. There is also a purely instrumental version .. sublime.

I would have gone with many of the above mentioned songs until I watched Prince, Tom Petty, Jeff Lynne, Steve winwood and Dhani Harrison do while my guitar gently weeps. It's the faces on the others when Prince does his solo, they all look impressed by him which makes him stand out to me. I did have the pleasure of seeing him not long before he died and he was an amazingly talented musician.

Just about all Rory Gallagher tracks have a cracking solo in them somewhere, some it’s his classic fender and others it’s acoustic, the guy was just a genius.

Others that deserve a shout would be Pete Green on Black Magic Women.

I've just scanned down through all of the responses and, the very interesting thing is, I don't think that there is a single track that was composed after the mid-1980s.

Hotel California – Eagles

Sweet Child O’Mine – Guns N’ Roses

Child in Time – Deep Purple

"Status quo - pictures of matchstick men.

Blue oyster cult - don't fear the reaper.

Iron maiden - doctor doctor.

Free - be my friend.

Black pistol fire - speak of the devil.

Sensational alex harvey band - hammer song. .. I'm sure I'll think of afew more

Doctor Doctor was UFO, wasnt it? Maiden usually have it as their intro music. Something Orange Goblin later ripped off. Now theres a band with some riffs."

Yes... That's a beautiful moment. The cheer when the crowd hear the intro to Doctor Doctor before a Maiden gig. Gives me butterflies my bf sings in a band who've been compared to Orange Goblin, I looooove their stuff.

Canned Heat, Fried Hockey Boogie.

It's not my favourite guitar solo, but its definitely a tune that jumps to the forefront of my mind when I hear the word 'SOLO'.

You get a base, electric, drums and keyboard solo for your money, all narrated to and introduced with style and panache.

'Dogs' doesn't need solos, it just THAT guitar bit, that makes the song magical.

I know the exact bit you mean. I love the lyrics too. Roger Waters is such a malevolent misanthrope, I've always thought we'd get on rather well

Knowing full well my dads taste in music and his sadness at the sorry state of modern music. I played this for him in the van whilst we were working.

Whole album not long after (found a convert), but I started with this (probably why).

Apple doesn't fall far from the tree, acoustically speaking.
