Has any one been? any top tips?
Thinking about doing a city break there in May time, not even sure if it is doable as its a 13 hour flight...
Thinking of going late Wed even and flying back the Monday pm...
And I have only slept on a plane twice in my life, 1st time I was ill as anything on way back from Miami, 2nd time I was hungover as hell on a 8am flight out of Milwaukee to San Francisco... I stopped drinking around 4am and had to be up at 6am |

"Try and visit the island of santosa if you get a chance you going for the stop-off in dubai "
Dubai is one of the few countries on my do not visit list! I will get arrested... you can't drink or do anything and my touch of ADHD will get me into hot water
Going for a non stop flight, I do also have a track record of missing planes... well one to be precise and it was the beers fault |

Fly A380 if you can, unbelievably comfortable.
Places to visit,
Clarke Quay
Gardens by the bay
Singapore Zoo
Orchard road
Singapore flyer
Chinatown
Sentoss Island
Zouk and Bang Bang night club are good fun.
Can be expensive ok there. Booze is quite pricy, about £7 for a 330ml beer.

I found Singas odd as it kinda appears like the money from ouside is trying to push everything else into the sea. Used to be a great feel to Boogey Street, everything off the wall was there but when I went it was nations caravans selling wares..to English one selling toy red buses etc.it's the one place I couldn't t buy anything that was an example of Singas. I spent most of my time in Little India and Arab quarter where the real people are making a living |

That is reassuring, always felt on edge in Barcelona and didn't venture far from my hotel in the evenings
Thank you everyone, I am compiling a list, and awaiting flights sales to book a flight!
Anyone suggest hotels or places to eat? mid range to poor budget
However love to stay in the Marina Bay Sands |

I really like Singapore and now use it as a stop-over/break point on longer trips (consider 1 or 2 nights if you are planning a trip to Bali or Australia); I used to live in Hong Kong and it was a decent weekend getaway destination.
The best months to visit are Feb through Apr as there is, generally, less rain with most rain in Nov.
The humidity is around 80% which can be draining.
The food is amazing both in hotels, restaurants and food courts.
Hotel buffets are extremely good value, as are food courts.
The Grand Prix ramps up prices considerably with some hotels tripling their prices AND requiring a four night stay.
Shopping wise; expensive but it's possible to pick up some decent high end photographic equipment e.g. Nikon, Hasselblad and pre-owned Contax equipment if you know where to find the outlets (PM me if interested).
Changi airport is one of the best in the world; definitely go and see the butterflies!
Things to do:
Raffles Hotel for 'Tiffin' (don't have breakfast beforehand)
The Former Ford Factory now a WWII exhibition
Tiong Bahru
Singapore Zoo and botanical gardens

Singapore Airways are fantastic to fly with- even in cattle class.
I’d suggest heading to china town for food and keeping away fro the financial district when you’re hungry- unless you have seriously deep pockets (think it worked out at about £80 per person for an average 2 course meal when I looked)
The orchid gardens are a good escape and if you like motorsport, you can walk round most of the F1 track safely and easily.
The airport is actually another highlight and is possibly the best in the world- it even has a butterfly garden. If you’re really lucky, you might be able to get on your plane using a slide- although that’s only just been added, so wasn’t there when I went ?? |

Went last yeah for the F1, it was class but expensive, there are a few good hostels if there is a group of you, it is very clean, the garden lights were very relaxing after a 3 day tear up, there was one bar that had an all you can drink for 2 hours for 50 of their dollars, if ylu goto 4 floors of whores, don't piss them all off like me and my mate did, that was funny! Few good Irish themed bars knocking around too! There is a holiday island thing there too you can get a train to with a beach and water park! Then a trip upto the top of the hotel too! Cracking place! Dubai is great too! One of the places where I have been very d*unk too! |

Raffles was being done up when I went, but was advised not to go as the slings are a con there, over priced and made in bulk for the tourists.
China Town is amazing though, and if you want anything then always haggle.
The temples are wonderful to wander around.
The centre is smaller than you realise so you can walk places if you want, but the metro system is very cheap and reliable. Buses don't accept notes.
Wasn't there long enough to experience the night life properly, but you must go to the botanical gardens at night. |

The Long Bar, where the Singapore Sling was created, is a tourist trap and the Slings are, indeed, made in bulk.
That said, you can have a decent cold beer and the roasted peanuts in their shells are free (you just drop the shells on the floor).
The Tiffin lunch is, however, something that you shouldn't miss as the range of authentic Northern Indian dishes is worth every cent of the S$62 (£34) price.
You also get to take a look at the lobby of the Raffles which is, otherwise, out of bounds for non-guests.

Singapore is definitely possible as a city break (my first trip to Japan was a four night visit to Tokyo which is a similar flight time).
Book a flight that leaves UK in the evening as you do want to arrive in Singapore with the ability to check straight into your hotel for a restorative sleep.
