Just listening to a chat on Radio 6 where they're saying Glasgow is the best audience in the world and the Barrowlands the greatest venue out there. I'm biased, but I agree  .
What is your fave gig venue?

A great small, intimate venue is Borderline, in Soho. Been a few times and always next to the stage. Last time there, Fran Healey from Travis was standing next to me.
Bigger venues, such as Brixton Academy and Shepherd's Bush Empire are great, but the best I experienced was OMD at the Royal Albert Hall. I was right behind the sound engineers. Fantastic night. |

It's a seated venue, but with enough space to stand unlike some.
You would love the church in Cardif it is literally an old church complete with bell tower that has been emptied of pews and a stage built one end, a bar the other. Or for sticky floors the Fleece in Bristol takes some beating  |

Not been to the Borderline in years, used to love that place, for years I lived just off the strand and worked in the west end so walked past every day so always knew what was on. |

It's so iconic. RIP the Arches, ABC and Art School  , hope nothing ever happens to the Barras and they never try update it! |

I really liked The Mean Fiddler in Harlesden. Sadly it has been lost to Crossrail.
I like The Forum in Kentish Town.
I have mixed feelings about the Royal Albert Hall. I like the size and shape. Views of the stage are generally really good. I have been there more than anywhere else principally because of the Proms, but I've seen some great acts there - Steve Winwood, Eric Clapton, BB King, Jackson Browne and others.
The problem is the acoustics are terrible. It was opened in 1871 as an echo chamber but somebody thought it would be funny to hold concerts there. |

The Millennium Stadium in Cardiff is just as terrible for acoustics. I've seen three or four concerts there, and I've sworn never again.
However, the Town Hall in Birmingham is pretty good. Bland, but sounds good |

If it's sticky floored, dark venues you like, you can't beat The Adelphi, in Hull. You have to wipe your feet when you leave, and the car park is often a mud bath. A lot of the big names played there before they became famous; Oasis, Pulp, Bjork to name a few, and my band have played there a few times, too, but we've no intention of becoming famous lol |

The 3 arena Dublin , formally the Point, everyone knows it's the best Crowd to play 2,
Venue , probably the O2 London Say pearl Jam and Gomez there , sound was amazing.
Jones Beach Long island the coolest venue, 3 weekends in a row, Allman's John Fogerty , Sherl Crow, brillant back drop. |

The Arches was good. I remember seeing The Breeders there back in the early 90s great night

Gomez and Pearl Jam.. 2009? I was there amazing.
Wedgewood Rooms in Portsmouth was a real good small venue |

JBs in Dudley was ace.
The Wardobe in Leeds was class too.
I'll let you know what I think of Brixton Academy later on (only been once before many moons ago so can't really remember)

Ooh, done a few..
Oasis just before they pulled the old wembley down.
Foo fighters just after they built the new wembley.
Alter bridge at the Royal Albert hall.
Blue man group at the millenium dome.
Few gigs at the o2 academy in birmingham and motorpoint arena in notts...
All good.  |

For Gerry Cinnamon? I'm going to see him next month but it's the Hydro and I'm not a big fan of arena shows. Plus taking kids so we're seated and I like to be in amongst it all! It'll still be bouncing everywhere though I'm sure . Have a ball! |

In contrast one smaller venue I'm really not that keen on in Glasgow is the CCA. I've been to a couple of great gigs there but only because the band made it. It's just a big empty rectangle so it feels like a school disco and the bar is miles away in a different part of building so you have to leave the gig to get a drink/go to the loo. |

One place I did love going to was The Venue in Calton road, Edinburgh. I was gutted when it closed. Gigs were up close and intimate. You often got a chance to chat with the bands too after they played

Prefer smaller venues where possible - which is a tough call these days as most "name" bands tend to go for the arenas/stadiums
Brixton Academy is up there as a favourite and the now long gone Hammersmith Palais was awesome too.
Albert Hall isn't bad and sound is perfect
Of the Arenas/Stadiums - London Stadium was pretty good when I saw the Foos there last year, and look forward to returning for Green Day in 2020 - both the 3 Arena Dublin and SSE in Belfast were pretty good O2 London I have mixed feelings about, have seen some great gigs there and some awful ones because the sound wasn't right |

I prefer smaller venues, good job I'm not into chart music really.
Favourites are the deaf institute and soup kitchen in Manchester and the trades club in hebden bridge. Of the bigger venues the Apollo is ok but the arena and academy are bloody awful. |

Think the Borderline has recently closed down, or is about to which is a big shame as I agree with you, some nice memories in there. |
