"i grew french beans last year,got a realy good crop,i grew garlic last year for the first time,that did well "
I've never tried garlic ,growing , i might try that , I'm noy going to bother much , because of the draught , i got some cherry tomato seeds left from last year , i'll start them off this week tho .. but dont think it's worth doing carrots ? |

sorry to hijack a veg thread but i really want to grow some sunflowers. I know the seeds aren't very hardy and just one frost could kill them off.

You can't really go wrong with sunflowers.
Birds love them so you have to be careful when they start to shoot otherwise they eat them all. |

Plant them in 3inch pots to start , just put them on your window sill , cover for first 5days and a small amount of water to germinate , when they are 5 inch high , harden off outside in the day time for a week ,then plant out late May ...simples
dont forget to save the seeds for the birds in winter |

Asparagus needs a big bed and doesn't crop till the second year. It's great to be able to cut and cook it within minutes, but it's space and time consuming...
As for pickling all my crimbo pressies last year were homemade - most of the pickles are eaten but I had the pleasure of seeing some of my preserves being enjoyed this Easter |
