With Ice Hockey on the rise across the UK and me having found one awesome hockey buddy, I was wondering if there’s hockey fans on here for the banter!?

I really want to get into Hockey. Been to see the Sheffield Steelers a few times now and enjoyed every game

Finding someone else who likes it is the trouble though. Might just start going on my own

My one experince of being on ice skates resulted in a four hour wait in A+E.

I’ve contemplated a few Dundee games but it’s a half hour drive and I’m lazy so I watch a lot of the AHL NHL And it’s awesome that freesports are showing the EIHL Games. Steelers are a great team so far this season

You'll always meet other people doing this. Nothing to do while they zamboni the ice between periods. People talk.

If you find go to your local rink you will probably find they have a Reccy league.

These are ideal for those looking to get into the sport.

I myself actually played for Fife Flyers for a season and also Stirling Wolves.

Unfortunately due to my current job its difficult to to get going now.

Helmet with a cage was great to grab onto to keep the fucker at bay. I had a visor for many years, I wasn't daft!

Bench clearance at the "Swindon ladies friendship tournament" was one that was talked about for an awful lot of years.

Ex Manchester Phoenix fan here (until they folded).

Is it on the rise again? Genuine question as I now focus on the DEL German Hockey league though I have toyed with idea of checking out the Leeds Chiefs. Just concerned it will be like watching a puck in treacle compared with the DEL. Havnt watched the top tier leaguein UK, whatever its currently called since Phoenix walked away from it 10 or so years back.

Aster all the heartache and struggles with Phoenix we just couldnt face starting again supporting a different team and for whatever reason refused to go back to Altrincham to watch a team called Storm that have and never had any connection, physically, personnel-wise,financially or emotionally to the original 90s Storm ( so why they retired old storm jerseys is anyones guess), so I decided to support Eisbaren Berlin, a team we watch live maybe 6 times a year and weekly via subscription chammel. Better I know to put money into the British game, but its a decision we took.

Wait for second half in January. That's when everyone finds their groove, knows their lines, with no threat of trades or contracts.

Over 4 million have unsubscribed from sportsnet already. To fire someone who - literally does more veterans than any other commentator on air - who may speak his mind offensively (I have been more offended by shit on south park sometimes but I dont care I just turn the channel) - on Remembrance Day is completely unprofessional. I hope TSN picks him up. I have watched him every Saturday night for over 35 years. It is a big deal.

Well, see how they do now that they fired Babcock and are changing line focus. I'm not a huge leafs fan, but when your top paid stars cant generate goals in power plays theres too much going on in the locker room that needs to be sorted.

His minute management was piss poor tbh. I can understand rewarding players with more minutes etc, but there is a time and a place for it. Dubas has his own team now, his coach and his players. Having Marner and JT out haven't helped.

He was sending out his 4th line too much, and their are always reasons you do that as a coach. Babcock is arrogant but he has earned the right to be arrogant (and trust me, I dont like saying that because of my strong aversion to the Wings even though I grew up with Osgood), however he may be a bit too old school for some of the newer generation.

See how things shape up for the leafs. Not my team but it's a reflection of things to come for most head coaches out there.

Being in position for upcoming draft picks is not a bad place right now considering the game is moving towards power offense and speed over power. The new skate blades the centers are wearing are the same as defense now so they can turn faster but are also thick to thin in front so they have more sprint.

And it's the younger players who ate more adept to using them.

The top players are really struggling in the games I’ve watched, I’d high hopes for Granlund but he’s not made much of a dent, our D men Hamhuis and Irwin are turnover machines too. Need Ellis back on the ice ASAP also need Forsberg and Johanssen to wake up. I do also thing Duchene should be doing more than watching the puck roll by him

Hynes is a good coach but I'm not sure it was the best fit either. Laviolette was a screamer, Hynes is a systems guy and he can make things complicated fast by overthinking it so players have no idea what anyone else is doing.

The thing is - once it starts working it works. Just gotta keep your head out of your ass and embrace a new start.

I told you in October - they paid too much for their defense and the rest of the team will stop playing now.

Flyers fan here.... back when Lindros was king!

UK hockey apparently has been on the rise for 30 years when I first started playing, unfortunately it hasn’t picked up that much over that time, even though they keep trying to rebrand it over & over.

It’s a very expensive hobby over here, especially compared to other impact sports.

It's still expensive anywhere!

If Lindros learned to keep his fucking head up crossing the blue line he would have made history. Now hes just writing history of how to rebuild your life after being concussed for about 15 years of it.

"Flyers fan here.... back when Lindros was king!

UK hockey apparently has been on the rise for 30 years when I first started playing, unfortunately it hasn’t picked up that much over that time, even though they keep trying to rebrand it over & over.

It’s a very expensive hobby over here, especially compared to other impact sports.

Without a doubt, I’d have to remortgage the house to keep up with jersey purchases "

I got some new skates in the Black Friday sales, they were still £270 ouch! How my parents found the money kitting me out and driving all over the country is amazing!

Co Durham

"

You'll always meet other people doing this. Nothing to do while they zamboni the ice between periods. People talk. "

Isn't the zamboni a sexual position? Favoured among puck sluts everywhere...

I used to watch the Durham Wasps back in the 80s. Alas, those glorious days are gone.

"Well, the battle of alberta (flames/oilers) was won by my team in a perfect shoot out.

The game on Saturday will be even better!!!

Sorry about Nash grootie but they were playing a beefed up Ovechkin.

They won 5-4

Oh that's right. I was only checking in. I had beer league tonight so I missed most highlights. EVERYTHING is about number 24 or number 8 (Bryant's numbers) on every reel here. "

I’d to laugh at a caps fan gloating on the Preds page after the 2nd, unfortunately being 6hours behind I couldn’t mock his stupidity but I was as surprised as anyone at that win. NJD tomorrow.. tonight tonight

My parents were cheap and sent me to football training

I remember turning up to Stevenage rink for a match - locked up bailiffs had massive chains round the doors, then the following week the same happened at Solihull.

The amount of times MK went under was baffling

Truth be told, baseball is more expensive than hockey here. And fucking dance or figure skating takes the cake. People make fun of those two sports but I'm not kidding - hundreds of thousands of dollars are spent before 16 if they show talent.

Tbh any sport where you’re chasing the dream is like that now, elite training and facilities are in demand so prices inflate - my daughter is slightly better than average(not harsh just realistic) at gymnastics, £175 a month on training and gym fees..... she absolutely loves it though so happy to see that smile.

That, in a nutshell, is something you can never put a price on. Love that.

Hmm wander why my parents were content with my miserable face playing midfield lol

So if the Preds don’t make the playoffs I’m going to need a play off team
