Dual citizenship - handy info
Jump to: Newest in thread
Just thought I'd share this as I only found out the other day and it's pretty handy for people with Irish parents/grandparents.
My mums from northern ireland and we just discovered that ireland as a whole only has 1 passport. This means if she gets her Irish passport I can then apply for dual citizenship. This means that if Brexit happens you can continue having rights for free travel and European healthcare.
Not sure how commonly this is known but it's pretty handy info to have if you've got irish family |

"Apparently no one else finds this useful
I'm British Hong Kongese. That gives me the right to go to Hong Kong and get shot by the police. "
Lol. I laughed for awhile at that. |

I don't think so. It seems if you was born on the island of ireland you may have a british passport and also be a citizen of ireland |

Nope, I've claimed Irish citizenship this way and you're allowed to hold two passports but no more I believe. |

Well I was born in south and I have an Irish republic passport and I’m not entitled to a uk passport. I have friends in the north with parents from the south and they had the choice which passport they wanted but anyone born in the north with parents from the north would automatically become a uk citizen |
