Ever had someone at a call centre mis-spell your name?
The military use a phonetic spelling alphabet using prescribed words (examples above) to use in radio communications etc. when spelling words out loud or letter-by-letter to ensure that the correct message is sent, received and understood.
For example: 'w' is replaced by WHISKY
Today's Fab mission is to create a sexual phonetic alphabet.
So, ladies and gentlemen, to your radios and one time pads.

also used by CB radio operators for DX , on amateur radio and usb and lsb, skip talking,
