I'm always on the move with my job and i eat wherever I stop.
I try to eat in salad bars but I don't see many of them and I can't seem to get away from takeaways.
I do a lot of walking with my job but it doesn't seem to help me lose weight. The last time I weighed I was over 17stone.
What should eat? |

Travel a lot with the business. We find speaking to the staff at restaurants and hotels helps a lot. As you pointed out a restaurant meal is great on the weekend, but every night not so much fun. If you speak to people they will generally put together something off menu and more normal. Grilled chicken, a nice salad, the chef usually likes putting together something different and you enjoy some normal food. |

Keep a food diary for a month and be brutally honest, record every biscuit, every sugar in tea and coffee etc.
Most people are in denial about how many calories they consume.
That should give you a good idea of how much you're really eating.
If you're exercising and not losing weight then you're eating too much, plain and simple.

For me the first meal of the day is lunch around 1:30 pm and is just chicken and cheese.

Meat, fruit, veg, salad, nuts, and drink plenty of water.
Every time you want bad food give yourself 5 minutes to decide if it's really worth it and to remind yourself of why you are losing weight. |

It's like this..
I wake up early in the morning and have a coffee or energy drink and some type of microwave snack then off I go to work.
Next il have a salad box or chips and peas etc, or whatever.
Then before I come home or when I'm home il have another meal.
Doesn't seem like a lot but and. Never eat in between or late at night. I weight always remains around the same though. |

I reckon there has to be more to it, maybe the weekend you overindulge? Are you a big drinker? Maybe you’re snacking more than you think? |

You're eating too many calories end of. If you're overweight it's that simple.
Again, as I said above I suspect you're in denial, I'm not trying to be a twat here, I see it all the time. People want to blame something else before they'll admit it and realise they're eating too much. |

I found that keeping well hydrated helps control any hunger pangs. If you want a shock, do the food diary as well for a week or two and be brutally honest with yourself.
For me, I needed to cut sweets out (usually had a bag in the car ) and cut down on fatty foods. I also cut down on bread & cake.
I've had no problem in asking for something like plain chicken with some veg or salad and potatoes, or other meats - but if there's any fat on it, it gets cut off. I've even found a fish & chip shop that did poached fish rather than battered with potatoes & veg / salad.
That works for me, may not work for everyone. |

Too much but you're more likely to eat too many calories with some foods than others. It's technically possible to lose weight eating nothing but McDonald's food but you'd have to eat very little and you'd be hungry a lot. |

Sounds nice.
I love the taste of pasta and rice boxes.. Which I think is okay? However I rarely come across salad bars when I'm on the move. |

I'll repeat the below again
Keep a food diary for a month and be brutally honest, record every biscuit, every sugar in tea and coffee etc.
If you're not willing to be honest with yourself it won't work.
If you needed say 2500 calories a day you could get all that from healthy food or all from McDonald's. You're weight would be broadly the same either way, but you'll feel like shit on McDonald's and health markers will be very poor. Body composition would be a little different too.
Its not what you eat, it's how much.

Is that a full sugar energy drink as there's usually at least 100 calories in them. What do you mean by microwave snack?
If you mean chips and peas from the chip shop that's about 800 calories. By comparison I have about 400-500 for my lunch.
What do you have for your dinner? My partner seems to make enormous dinners that are mostly carbs and they're often about 1000 calories, sometimes even more. He's very active and doesn't eat much the rest of the day so is still slim, it's not very healthy though.

Yes a full sugar energy drink to get me going. Microwave snack? I mean a burger or hotdog, sometimes a pasty.
For dinner I have pasta, rice or burger and chips. Whatever I come across. Yes I have sugar in my coffee. |

You don't need a diet, a diet is temporary. You need a lifestyle change.
Plenty of fruit and veg, lean meat and fish, good fats from avocado, oily fish etc, carbs from whole grains.
Oats with milk for breakfast or scrambled eggs with Bergen bread.
Quinoa/wholegrain pasta/Brown rice with chicken and avocado for lunch
Dinner as above for lunch but with fish/turkey/lean mince, veg broccoli
Snack on fruit 3 pieces a day
If you need a snack then plain popcorn is good, cooked yourself.
Loads of other options to the above

Google Huel - (Human Fuel) - they do ready made drinks which contain all macros and micro nutrients etc you need. I find them great when Iam on the go as they do not need refrigeration. |

Download my fitness pal for keeping track of food. You can scan barcodes or enter things manually.
If you can prep things in advance as much as possible, I found it really difficult to get 2700 calories in per day, with around 160g of protein when eating the good stuff and not pre made shit.

I'd try to stick to the coffee rather than energy drinks if you can and while it's not ideal, either sweetener instead of sugar if you can't live without it or you'll have to reduce your calories even more to allow for it. If you're having two sugars a few times a day you're adding hundreds of calories. Same with soft drinks if you drink them.
They're not great breakfast options. Could you switch to microwave porridge sachets instead? My partner even buys pots from home bargains he just adds water too so he can take them to work.
It would help to add a lot more veg to your dinners. They will fill you up and are much lower calorie. You'll also feel better for it. |

Is there a diet you can recommend?
Thanks. Seems like mission impossible for me to find this on my work schedule I will try. "
I travel a lot for work. I take fruit with me. I used to buy a crustless quiche and eat a quarter a day with fruit. I used to work with a guy who ate chicken and fruit for lunch.
Many restaurants do diet or "lighter" options or let you swap the side of chips for a side of salad. Subway salads is another good option if you're careful about the dressings. |

Meal prepping is a good idea in addition to the points raised by Monkey and Lacey. Spend part of your Sunday cooking up some thought out meals that you can reheat or eat cold throughout the week.
You won't have to worry about what to eat when you stop somewhere, you'll be in control of your calories, and you'll probably save a fair amount of money too. |

"Keep a food diary for a month and be brutally honest, record every biscuit, every sugar in tea and coffee etc.
Most people are in denial about how many calories they consume.
That should give you a good idea of how much you're really eating.
If you're exercising and not losing weight then you're eating too much, plain and simple.
Eating to much or eating the wrong food
If you're not losing weight it's down to too much food, not the wrong type of food.
Do you have sugar in your coffees?
Yes a full sugar energy drink to get me going. Microwave snack? I mean a burger or hotdog, sometimes a pasty.
For dinner I have pasta, rice or burger and chips. Whatever I come across. Yes I have sugar in my coffee.
You'll also feel better for it."
I only drink one a day. Microwave porridge sounds tasty |

"Download my fitness pal for keeping track of food. You can scan barcodes or enter things manually.
If you can prep things in advance as much as possible, I found it really difficult to get 2700 calories in per day, with around 160g of protein when eating the good stuff and not pre made shit.
160g! God I'd feel sick. No idea how you guys do it.
Try 4300 calories, 265g protein, 565g crabs, 110g of fat "
Holy shit that's like 2.5 days for me! |

True. You could probably bench me . I just can't wrap my head around that much food! I'm embarrassed to admit i was only eating about 40g of protein a day before i started tracking it and wondered why I was always so sore after excercise. Durrr. |

Don't worry about macros for now, just count your calories. The average man needs 2,500 every day just to function so you want to be aiming below that in order to lose weight. Obviously the greater your deficit, the faster you'll lose weight but you'll also feel much hungrier so aim for maybe 2,400 for a week and see how you feel to start. |

Can you not make a packed lunch with a homemade salad box?
Thinking ahead and preparing will help and also save you money.
I make my own energy balls which I eat up to 4 of them until my first shift finishes around 2pm. They're made of dried fruit, nuts, oats and a bit of cocoa powder blitzed in a food processor and rolled into small balls.
They keep the hunger at bay and the cocoa in them curbs sweet cravings.

I find winter weather helpful, so that I can transport fresh food around with me, often using a cool bag, with insulation. You can keep ingredients or meals you've pre-prepared, in great condition and you know that you have what you need to be nourished and won't need to hunt for things or settle for inappropriate stuff. That doesn't have to be your only source of meals but is a fairly simple alternative to a fridge, for short periods. Good largely if you are driving - I keep mine in the trunk, as it's colder than inside the car. Some fruit, like bananas, could suffer if it's too cold, so pick wisely in winter.
Find what your daily calorie needs are, so that you can compare your intake against that. Any walking is good for fitness but you may also benefit from other exercise and an approach to weight loss that combines exercise with careful dietary management.

For many people the solution to losing weight is not simply eating less. Yes portion sizes can be a factor but often not the only factor. More important is what you eat. |

I do a really healthy version of the keto diet.. I don't want to be in ketosis. I just want to eat healthily. I'm not a massive fan of carbs anyway. My diet consists of lean protein, wide rane pi f vegetables, nuts, seeds and fruits. Plenty of green and peppermint tea... With occasional throw in of junk food to kerb the craving. Very small portions of junk food but generous portions of green veg. |

Given the amount I use it being processed which I'm well aware of, is not of any concern to me.
Price I pay works out at 1p per 1g of protein, thats cheap as chips. Find me another protein source that cheap |

You're eating too many calories end of. If you're overweight it's that simple.
Again, as I said above I suspect you're in denial, I'm not trying to be a twat here, I see it all the time. People want to blame something else before they'll admit it and realise they're eating too much.
What should I eat?
I'll repeat the below again
Keep a food diary for a month and be brutally honest, record every biscuit, every sugar in tea and coffee etc.
If you're not willing to be honest with yourself it won't work.
If you needed say 2500 calories a day you could get all that from healthy food or all from McDonald's. You're weight would be broadly the same either way, but you'll feel like shit on McDonald's and health markers will be very poor. Body composition would be a little different too.
Its not what you eat, it's how much.
Is there a diet you can recommend?
Thanks. Seems like mission impossible for me to find this on my work schedule I will try. "
It really isn't.
You can get oats on the go fit your breakfast instead of a microwave burger.
Not sure where you work but Morrisons have a salad bar (although a lot of their options have mayo so not that healthy, but you can just get lettuce, toms, cucumber, pepper, eggs etc). Most express stores will have pre packaged salads. Subway do great salad bowls.
If you can microwave stiff you can get microwaveable rice/grain pouches. These are great with tinned sardines if mackerel (if a big stinky. I'm not lived in the office when I have that lol).
The options are there you just need to adjust your thinking. |

You could read every post on this thread and you’ll find a slightly different opinion from each person, that’s because what works for one doesn’t always work for another.
I eat all day, every two hours from the time I open my eyes until I close them. I eat pretty much every thing apart from fish and pork. |
