When I was 14 I was torn between being a vet and oceanography, I luckily managed to find a career with a part of both professions which I have loved ever since.
Did you deviate from your childhood ideals or manage to progress in that profession? |

Wanted to join the RAF to work with the Military Police dogs but failed entry due to my shit maths. Was gutted. Could have retaken but my maths wasn’t going to improve so no point. I then contemplated the Army but was talked out of it by my Grampy.
I often wonder what i’d be doing now if i’d joined up.

Still no idea but along the way I've experimented and been an Electrician, Construction Manager, Personal Trainer, Worked in Sports retail and a Police officer amongst other things!
I've always envied those who know exactly what they want to do. |

Me old man put a Liverpool shirt on me ( before sponsorship ) at a very early age. Had trails for Southampton when I were about 11 or 12. A bad motorbike accident put paid to any half decent career. Now living the dream as a plumbing and heating engineer |

I wanted to go in to academia or be a foreign correspondent or a barrister. I managed the first for a bit until family obligations, the middle I grew out of the idea, the latter? I realised it wasn't for me. I'm now in a career and area I truly love and challenged in various ways. I'm happy. |

I think I'd be worried about my childhood if I had wanted to be what I so for either of my jobs as a kid . Funnily enough both are better than anything I wanted to do as a child. I mostly wanted to be an author or a teacher. Author I still wouldn't mind but I couldn't teach kids. Maybe uni students. |

Its a very admirable profession but I just don't really do kids at all until they are about 8 and even then only in small numbers. I've helped out at dance shows my best friend runs and found herding about 25 of them around very mentally draining. |

When I was 13, I wanted to be a famous singer! I'm totally tone deaf, and my lovely parents admit to this day that they didn't have the heart to tell me.
At 15 I went for an audition. I was told I sounded like a broken Bjork and not to bother....
So I turned my hand at more professional avenues, I'm now in management in a luxury industry. Almost famous, without as much money, but happy.

My parents wanted me to go to Uni, I didn't particularly know what I wanted so visited the RAF recruitment centre where after sitting an exam I was informed I was in but couldn't fly due to an eye issue. Then they said because what I wanted to do was a 4-5yr apprenticeship they wanted me to sign straight for 9yrs..
At 18 that seemed like well half a lifetime & I didn't bother. Still think about it sometimes..
I did eventually end up in a good job with a bit of world travel thrown in (Japan/USA a couple of times a year Mostly) & did that for 15yrs.
I've been working from home for about six years now & love it as it's flexible, hence i'm still working now but didn't come out here till about 6pm after having a social meet & then sorting kids dinner.
Fits with my insomnia too.
My dad wanted me to be a chartered surveyor, fuck knows why?

I always wanted to run restaurants when I was young.. I mistakenly thought it looked glamorous and exciting! Did that for 20 years and loved every minute... ended pretty suddenly with an accident, but I’m very lucky to now do something much more sociable within a charity I’m passionate about. There and to the left a bit |
All through school I was going to join the Royal Navy to the point that my school career advisor didn't even bother with me - went for the officer interview board and they suggested I might do better joining as a rating and working my way up - so joined at 17 almost 37 years ago to the day - sadly a combination of factors (teenage arrogance being the main one) saw me leave after a few months and before I had finished my training - probably the biggest mistake of my life |

"All through school I was going to join the Royal Navy to the point that my school career advisor didn't even bother with me - went for the officer interview board and they suggested I might do better joining as a rating and working my way up - so joined at 17 almost 37 years ago to the day - sadly a combination of factors (teenage arrogance being the main one) saw me leave after a few months and before I had finished my training - probably the biggest mistake of my life"
The arrogance of youth is a tricky attribute |

"When I was at school in the 80s I wanted to be a rock star. Then in the 90s popular music changed into something I didn't like so I went into office admin. Luke"

"I always wanted to run restaurants when I was young.. I mistakenly thought it looked glamorous and exciting! Did that for 20 years and loved every minute... ended pretty suddenly with an accident, but I’m very lucky to now do something much more sociable within a charity I’m passionate about. Silver linings "
Those silver linkngs are very rewarding, good for you |

"I wanted to paint custom motorbike tanks. My grown up job is in the creative industry, but I've never painted a motorbike tank in my life!
Mrs "
I don't do the painting but I restore motorcycles for a living. Started with older Brits but more & more moving to 80's Jap stuff as they become valuable & worth tidying up by their owners.

A rewarding job indeed I bet!!
I had a red and yellow Yamaha Fs50 when I was 16 and had the seat reupholstered in red faux leather hahaha. I did customise the tank but not with paint... I yacht varnished White Zombie artwork all over it decoupage style
Later on I had a Suzuki 250 but traded that in for a car eventually.

Spent over 40 years trying to be a boy.
Now I’ve found my true vocation in life and I’m getting very comfortable with it "

Army for me until my mum pointed out it really wasn't anything like the tv show Private Benjamin and that I have trouble with being told what to do plus I’m a bit untidy oh and trouble getting out of bed in a morning so don’t think I was an ideal candidate. |

That's an intense profession
Yes it is. I live with one. Some of the stuff he deals with ... it takes a certain type of person "
It does indeed, having a supportive family home must make it all a bit brighter |
