My apology is because I know some people dont want to read about womens issues So if you dont.. then please dont read further.. but I need to ask the ladies things.

I have since having my implant suffered terribly with irregular or at times constant periods.. now they sorted this by giving me the pill too.. However, they refused to let me do that any longer... and told me I would have to just manage..

Well thats all well and good but I am on my 12th day now of constant light bleeding.. and pain..

Doctor has said that it will settle over time.. but I have had the implant in for 15 months now.. Been off the pill as well since Xmas.. now I do get about 2-3 weeks without.. but then getting 2-3 weeks of bleeding... this is playing havoc with my sex life.. not to mention its just uncomfortable.

Does anyone know if the doctors can do anythign else..

and I cant change my contraception as coil just hurts to much during sex or gets dislodged ( tried it 3 times now) Pill gets affected by other medication I am on and I may as well not bother having anything.

Injection turns me into a pyschotic maniac...

It really doesn't sound worth the inconvenience and pain Cali.

I don't know anything about them though sorry.

Don't go for hysterectomy tho.... it's more life changing / threatening than you think. I've never regretted keeping mine. Amazing how many male docs just think it's nothing to whip it out.

Talk to your G.P. / Go to Women's clinic or Hospital.

Search the net.

Other than that im stymied.

Hope it all works out x

for light brake through bleeding and pain mefenamic acid works really well. For any heavy bleeding tranexamic acid is really good. They can both be taken with implant

I found these......

•caps

•combined pill

•condoms (female)

•condoms (male)

•contraceptive implant

•contraceptive injection

•contraceptive patch

•diaphragms

•intrauterine device (IUD)

•intrauterine system (IUS)

•natural family planning

•progestogen-only pill

•vaginal ring

There are two permanent methods of contraception:

•female sterilisation

•male sterilisation (vasectomy)

And the word NO

As a guy I do feel for you, it must be hell at the best of times....

OK, so I know nothing about the manufacturer of your implant, but according to Wikipedia, a certain type of implant causes irregular and/or prolonged periods, including heavy bleeding. To quote this manufacturer from Wikipedia:

"Expect your menstrual periods to be irregular and unpredictable throughout the time you are using xyz"

Seems a harsh price to pay to be honest...!?

Maybe give them all up and stick with condoms? Or if you don't want more children, get your other half to have a vasectomy?

I wouldnt have a hysterectomy as when master and I actually get to live in one house instead of two and a few hotels.. we tend to have a baby.. lol

But its just really starting to get on my nerves now.. I think if it was just the bleeding I could get over it.

But its the pain.. I am also seriously anemic.. and I am arguing that it cant be good for me.

I have a good relationship with my GP but they just keep telling me that maybe try the injection again.. I am to be honest getting tempted.. as maybe its slightly different from when I had it 12 years ago.

but I also have all the problems of being on when I am like this.. headaches, pain, and I actually feel sick for a lot of it.

I am researching and it does say that there is tablets.. but that most doctors wont give them..

I also for the first 5 days have extremly heavy periods.. always have.. so I am maybe going to try on that reason.

Oh god no.. lol.. I would never ever ask Master that.. nor would he.. and I wouldnt ever use condoms with my Master.. lol

sorry but I find it pointless enough with meets.. certainly not going to miss out on the best bit of sex with the man I love.

But thanks.. lol

I don't know what to offer either, I'm on my second implant and apart from having irregular periods (light bleeding) every two weeks for six months at the beginning, I've been totaly fine since.

Hope you sort out it out soon xx

The GP is not going to be an expert in the field of contraception, even if it's a woman. You need to tell them thativing with it is not an option and that you need to get a consultation with an expert.

Another thing you could try is seeing a consultant privately. It will cost a little bit but once you're on their radar and they realise you can't pay for private treatment they often bump you on to their NHS list.

I'm not an expert in the implant either so not sure if this is an option. You could also speak to the manufacturer of the implant. They will tell you if your side effects are normal. You'll find they can be very helpful.

"Cali before trying anything drastic try the tablets i said they really do work"

I am going to ask my doctor about what you said.. I wouldnt do anything drastic.. I would more likely just get the pill from a different family planning clinic first.. lol as that does work..

but because my mum had thrombosis they are reluctant to keep giving it me.

The implant can cause the symptoms I have... appparently its split 3 ways.. some women basically dont have a period on it.. some can have a normal cycle.. or some can have it ramdomly all over the place.

I even if I wanted it wouldnt be allowed to be sterilised.. and even that wouldnt help lol

My contraception is mostly for Master and I... so just using comdoms isnt going to be an option ever and due to Masters work we can sometimes have very limited time together.. which can get upsetting for me when I cant make love to my Man because I am on

Ok I went to the doctors yesterday as A I am not well and B I am about to kill someone because of my periods. I have suffered with awful periods since I was 14 they are extremely heavy and painful. I can't take the pill as it plays havoc with me. I have tried other medications and they on't work. The doc suggested I have the coil which I refused as I have heard some stuff about it so I was told I just have to put up with it..

Now I do take northestrone and that has seemed to helped me with the heaviness however its not contraception so have to buckle up the willes... haha Maybe you should get rid of the implant and just get put on the pill...?? xx

Wouldnt go as far as to say a hysterectomy should be considered as a birth control method but for me as a result of years of pain a hysterectomy was the best thing since sliced bread .

The injection turns me into the psychotic bitch from hell too. But it's the only contraception I can take that doesn't give me irregular bleeding. I take vitamin B6 daily, and that helps level my moods out, yeah, I'm still irrational at times, but I'm not on the verge of loosing my job now!!! Oil of primrose also helps, but I can't take that cause of epilepsy meds.

I get pregnant very easy on the pill.. Due to other medication which doesnt affect the implant..

You sound like me.. I have had very heavy and painful ones since I was 11.. its a nightmare.. Like you I cant have the coil either..

They use my weight as an excuse why I cant have anything else.. I am going to try the drop in centre.

Go to different doc's I have gone through about 4 becuase I got one saying once I have a baby the periods will get better... I had another one say loose weight and it will get better. I had another one say you just have to put up with it and another say what do you want to do... Ermmm I don't know I am the one asking you for advice as you are the one that is trained...

I really do feel for you. funnily I got pregnant on noresthrone... I would suggest if you can try different docs.. I have yet to meet an understanding one.. The most helpful person I found was a nurse after I had my miscarriage she listened and spoke with the doc at the hosptial and they took bloods glaore an could not find a reason for it...

well if I find a reason for it I will let you know.. as I have always suffered.. be it a size 10 or a 32.. I to have had bloods taken but it seems there is no reason..

I am going to try pushing it with the doctors that its now messing with my quality of life.. I think my doctors should be the onse I push as they do know about my lifestyle.. So would be easier..

I did for a short while get injections that stopped me bleeding but they are not to be used when on the implant except under extreme circumstances.

I am sorry you suffer too.. its horrid isnt it.. Luckily Master really takes care of me during this time... and understands that it can actually make me ill.. but I could live with my normal periods if they werent then carrying on for 2-3 weeks.. lol

If your doctor isn't helping you change doctors. You need someone with access to your medical history to give you proper advice.

Lisburn

Havn't read the whole thread, so sorry if its been mentioned before.

I had terrible problems from I started mine. Tried everything to the pill to sterlized. The only thing that really helped me was the balloon (not sure of theright teminalogy for it), but basically the insert balloon into womb and fill with saline water and heat to a high temp. This is done under local anisthetic. From I had this done about 4/5 yrs ago now my periods are very light and regular (before I never knew when I was going to have one).

Hope this helps xx

my daughter had the same problem, she had the implant and she just had none stop periods, would be on for about 2 weeks then off for a couple of days then have another period, they also put her on the pill but told her she could only go on for a month so after the month took her off but made no difference so she had the implant removed, if your still having problems after 15 month it obviously dont suit you so i would have it removed

If you cant use any other form of birth control maybe sterilisation could be an option?

Just had mine removed due to this!

Was considering the implant but don't think I will bother now!

Only choice for now then is sterilisation...

If you plan on having a baby...Sorry Cali, can't think of anything else for you......

Thanks my anemia is well managed.. it is just bleeding lots can cause issues with it.. I dont really get any side effects from the anemia treatments.

It was my family planning clinic that have also refused to give me the pill too.. They just suggest swapping to the injection or suggest the coil.. both of which are not any good for me.

They sent me back to my doctors for anything to stop bleeding.. due to the other complications they are not prepared to give me things.

I am seeing my gynacologist next month So if not sorted by then I will ask him..

Peaky Nipples

I've been having an ongoing saga with periods and the effects of hormones.

Hubby had the snip years ago so other than as a back up to condoms, I don't need contraception but I keep being given different ones to try to sort out my periods/hormone related problems.

the implant was a nightmare and worked really well as a contraception device as I didn't want sex

All I think is that if men had anything close to the period/hormone/contraception problems we have, there'd be a LOT more people in white lab coats trying to figure out a solution and the words, you'll just have to put up with it, wouldn't be uttered to many a woman

have to agree with Jet here. After years of suffering intense pain caused by endometriosis (have you been checked for this?) I was offered a hysterectomy at the age of 28.

Can honestly say it was the best thing I did but as you want children eventually not an option for you.

Hope you get things sorted though
