Worst couriers?

Currently having lots of problems with Yodel and Hermes but an absolute nightmare with DPD - the latter so bad, that if I can identify in advance which courier an online retailer uses and it's DPD, I won't order. None of the last half a dozen or so parcels via DPD have arrived as they were supposed to and one not at all. In the current instance, I was working in my home office, all day, a matter of feet from the front door...about 20 minutes into the delivery 'slot' I got a text saying 'sorry we missed you'...that'll be because you never actually came, then. The following day - supposed re-delivery - I got another 'sorry...' plus a picture of my village pub...not even the same postcode. As I write this, I still wait for the 'upgraded 0800-1700 Saturday delivery'...I'll let you know... |

Hermes are a nightmare....
My parcel was to be delivered on a Wednesday...I arranged for it to be delivered to my neighbour as I was at work. They kept pushing the delivery time out every few hours....finally delivered it on the Friday!
Ordered something else online...the driver rang my bell said 'delivery for your neighbour, she ain't in so need to leave a card for her'
I let the driver into the building...only to have my neighbour bring the parcel upto me a few hours later! |

I live near the depo and it's locally called :- Dropped Parcel Delivery. The drivers all work on price work which in turn means that your item is most definitely going to be fuck up. I have a friend who works for a different delivery firm and says they have to deal with their fuck ups on a daily basis and that Oak Whare house crap PLEASE DO NOT BUY..The wood is Chinese oak is okay but they don't let it dry out for a while so in turn when you get new stuff from them it's falling apart due to drying out in your home and where ever it's stored. Then you send it back to a warehouse (which is local to me as well) that has a shit load from others which have similar probs. They swap around the bits to make up the order. It's just pure shite and not worth the steam of anyone's pish. |

I get a ton of deliveries and Yodel have always been the worst for me. I do the same as you OP and end up avoiding retailers I know use them. DPD have actually tended to be the most reliable for me and I like that they text with an hour delivery window. It's probably hit or miss with them all depending on area. |

My DPD is excellent never missed never been late actually always within their allotted hour, even get a message when he's 2 deliveries away. Takes photos of where/with whom he leaves it with if not in! Been using them for years and all my weekly plus work deliveries are through them! |

They’re all shit. I hate having a decent parcel delivered...I just think of the scene from Ace Ventura Pet Detective (showing my age now) where Jim Carey delivers a parcel and literally kicks the fuck out of it all the way from the van to the doorstep. All delivery drivers do that lol. Even if your parcel appears to be in perfect condition, it’ll fall apart later. Buy stuff from shops and drive it home yourself. |

The joys of online shopping.
I send around 500 parcels a year (ebay) I use Hermes for U.K. deliveries and UPS for overseas deliveries. All courier companies will have one or two rotten apples in every barrel and we tend only to remember the failed deliveries and damaged parcels.
95% of what I sell is glass which if packaged properly should survive any courier,my breakage rate is less than 1% and my loss rate about the same.
Perhaps I am one of the lucky ones. |

That really is quite kick arse impressive. Jim Carey was just a naughty man then. |

I think it really depends on where you live. Some couriers seem to be better in some areas than in others.
I've had bad experiences with UPS and Yodel whereas Hermes and DPD have always been brilliant |

Does anyone ever look at the ‘where’s your parcel right now thingy’ and start seeing it as competition for how much shit you can get done before white van man pulls up? I do. It evokes a similar level of excitement to the best game in the world that is petrol roulette. Petrol light comes on, and the next station is 10 miles away, every c**t says cars do 30 miles with the light on...but you know better, you know your car...it’s old, it’s just really not going to do that...but itl’ll easy do 20 miles...maybe. You stick fingers up at the next one that’s only 5 miles ahead and laugh. The next one is then...18 miles away...and that’s the jizz or shit your pants trigger. That challenge, and accompanying Adrenalin rush is unbeatable. Watching the sensible stop point disappear in your mirror...now you’re fucking committed, will it work? Your car is always the best car in the world when it does. And admit it, you have kissed the steering wheel as your little Lucy or whatever your first birds name was that you’ve called your car limps in over the finish line (just as you do in your pants) and calls you a cunt. You’ve been calling yourself a cunt for those last 18 miles too and babbed your pants in the process. Delivery man roulette is the same, it’s not as good as you’ll always get your parcel without being massively inconvenienced. |

Years ago, I waited for a package to be delivered to my Work Address as it was easier to do it that way.
It never arrived, so I complained to DHL whose local manager said he'd investigate.
He got back to me 24 hours later to say the driver had tried to deliver, but no-one was in, nor could he find anywhere to leave a card.
I invited said Manager to my work, which was a Truckstop and with Security Main Gates staffed 24/7.
I showed him my site CCTV which caught his driver accessing part of our site and parking up bedside another vehicle.
The driver emerged from his van, opened the rear doors and transferred a load of parcels etc to the other vehicle!
The 2nd vehicle left, with the DHL van parked up for a further 30 minutes before it drove away, never entering our site to deliver anything.
Turned out the driver was stealing from customers. That was in the late 90's, my package never arrived, but I'm hoping one day that DHL will say Thank You! |

Are you sure your parcel wasn’t on the same plane Tom Hanks went down on? |

DPD are brilliant in my area. Up to date texts with time driver expected.
Amazon fantastic with live tracking.
Hermes usually turn up fine for deliveries but hit and miss for collection.
Yodel however, Yodel are pointless. Nespresso use Yodel and we usually find them at one of the neighbours houses but they rarely leave a note- even though my safe place isn't even with a neighbour |

I recently bought 2 beds, from separate companies
Both used Arrow XL
Biggest cowboy crew ever!
My sons bed, a metal high sleeper, was due to be delivered Friday, I paid extra for next day delivery.
My Eldest son was coming on the Sat to fit the carpet & help me build the bed
The couriers texted Friday lunch to say 'delivery on Sunday'
After much phone calls, on hold to the high rate number, their answer was "we can't justify driving to your area for 1 item"
The bed company refunded me my delivery charges £29.99
Bed was delivered Sunday lunch time, the feral child had to help me build it as the Eldest was busy.
It wasn't pretty!
Ordered my bed a week later, when checked confirmation email saw it was same courier.. Grrrr
Bed due Monday, was supposed to recieve a text in the morning confirming time slot.. Nothing
Got home & checked emails, they'd trued to deliver 20mins before I got home!
More calls, again to high rate number, took an hour of trying to get through
Was told bed would still be on the van & redelivered the next day.
Nothing, more calls that afternoon, eventually my bed found. In the warehouse?
Weds morning get text to say delivering slot 18.28 - 20.28
It arrived at 17.20, just as I got home from work!
Delivery was supposed to be to room of choice, as stated on bed company website.
The driver refused, insisted he only did to door.
Bed frame was cast iron, packing labelled as 45kg.
Nothihg compared to what I can lift, but the size/shape of the box made it impossible for me to get upstairs alone.
Had to leave it outside, in the pouring rain til the feral got home to help me.
2nd bed company refunded me £10.
When I got my phone bill, it'd cost me £16.54 on calls to the courier company
I will check in future before ordering anything online, that I need on a certain date which courier they use. If its Arrow, I won't be ordering! |

My local Hermes courier has been delivering my parcels for the past 7 years, not only is she super efficient at her job but she is also a real stunner and would be welcome in my bed at any time |

This is partly why 97% of Royal Mail and Parcelforce staff have voted for strike action.
The company not only want to go back on national agreements around working conditions made 2 years ago, they are planning to break up the company, starting with making Parcelforce a separate company. At present Parcelforce is staffed mostly by employees and not self employed drivers paid per item delivered. They are on the same kind of contract as the postman, with the same regulations of a universal service 6 days a week. The CEO Rico Back was formerly in charge of GLS, renowned for poor working conditions and zero hour contracts. The CWU are trying to fight these types of working conditions coming to our national postal service.

Yodel left £300 of clothes on my front door step in the rain when I was in the house. They are absolutely useless and lazy, never rang the bell or anything.
My UPS and Hermes delivery folk though are brilliant, as is my postie. |

There and to the left a bit |
The only one I have had real problems with is Yodel and the occasional Amazon driver.
The problem is not really the drivers more the policies of the companies behind them - have got to know the Hermes driver that delivers to my house pretty well and chat to him whenever he delivers - he can be given up to 300 parcels to deliver a day (more at busy times like Xmas) and the company insist on cramming it into his car - they're expected to deliver every parcel regardless of how long it takes and are "fined" for any not delivered or expected to repeatedly go back to an address where they can't deliver or find a "safe" place to leave items - they don't get paid petrol money and are no contract employees - so it's no wonder many of them just want to leave a parcel anywhere and miss timeslot etc |

Hermes gets a pretty bad rep but I've had so many parcels delivered and never had any issues.
I think the worst experience I had was with Yodel who decided to lob a signed for home decor order over the back fence. I hadn't picked up dog poop that day and it landed in that and dog urine. |
