"Jacket potatoes. "
See I have done jackets on combination to start with and microwave to finish then if they are not crispy enough finished in the oven and they are nice and take a fraction of the time. But I know what you mean. The texture isn't as fluffy. |

I always mess it up. I’ve tried starting them in the microwave and finishing off on the oven. I think I probably get the timings wrong. I could burn salad me! |

The only things I use the microwave for is, milk for a hot chocolate and reheating left overs.
However I do hate when people microwave soup haha soup should be gently heated to avoid boiling and ruining the flavour |

You don't need to boil soup anytime, either on a hob, or in a microwave. |

Obviously the BEST way to do jacket potatoes is wrapped in foil and buried at the bottom of a camp fire.

"Cinnamon buns.10 seconds will freshen them up but they'll then go hard and rubbery! If you eat them, massive indigestion awaits.
Voice of experience "
I think anything like that, even pizza goes really hard once it cools down if it's been zapped to refresh it. |

Agreed. Not sure on the cooking time bang it on for a minute, check if it's hot enough and keep going if it isn't. Once you have a rough idea how hot things get and for what time, you can just about judge anything without it boiling unless that is what you are after. |

"Cups with metal paint on the handle apparently! Didn’t work well! "
Or bowls, they definitely spark and I saw a show saying that it's a misconception about microwaves. But I don't care what anyone says I have seen metallic items arc inside one. Also a grape creates plasma inside one. |

Apparently milk is one of the worst things you could microwave. I try to avoid microwaving anything if possible and only use it as a last resort. Im convinced my kids get sick less often as a result. |

"Jacket potatoes.
I microwave jacket spuds and then put them in the oven. It means I get crispy potato skin (yummy) and much quicker than just the oven.
Cal"
The skins, if done in the oven, are the best bit |

I will say this to anyone that's reading the thread, be careful when microwaving anything liquid as I have seen first hand gravy explode out of a jug due to it carrying on cooking after the microwave pinged and as soon as it came out of the microwave it went all over and burnt an old colleagues neck. |

"a fly ..... my brother did it as a kid "
I once had a halogen uplighting lamp in the living room that was really bright and a fly landed on it, I heard a electric hum and then smelt the smell of said fly as the halogen burnt the oversized blue bottle to a crisp. The smell of burning hair and must tools weeks to get out of the house, so I can imagine in the microwave it's similar |

Our last microwave (RIP little fella) had a handbook that said that you could put foil in it, so long as the foil didnt have any sticky-out bits that would act like lightening conductors (it was worded way more technical than that but thats what it meant). Never had the balls to try it.
BTW, this one died cos our daughter would pretty much use it for EVERYTHING, and never clean it |

We use the microwave all the time especially for cooking veg.
Little bit of water and a pierced seal, steams the veg in no time. Still a little give and still full of the good stuff.
Not boiled to an inch of their lives.
