Hi,
Any reccomendations for books or online courses etc related to using social media for marketing etc.
Obviously I use LinkedIn and Twitter etc but tbh it's more for the social side whereas I've been approached about a new job to set up a new division so I'd have to generate my own leads etc etc
I've got all my old akool contacts which is fine but I'm undecided whether social media marketing can help in any way(I'm sure it can) but I'm that age where just about get by.
I guess YouTube has them but thought I'd get fab forums advice.
Should I now # something |

"Have you looked through the CIM website? quite a few digital courses on there.
It depends on what sort of course you're after- is a qualification important or just the info?"
The qualification isn't important at all it's just if I do accept this new job and challenge I'd like to use every marketing avenue to help me get to its full potential.
I'm that generation that really ignores it to a point and relies on people skills and the old way of selling and marketing.
I'll google CIM and gave a look.
Thank you for the reply it's much appreciated.

"The DMA have some brilliant resources that you can find with a quick search. "
Thanks Mel,
I've not heard of DMA or the poster above you suggestion, I'm guessing it's direct or digital marketing association ?
Much appreciated |

"Nothing puts me off buying something more than being hounded with marketing on social media!"
No intention of hounding anyone it's not what I do,
It would be more raising awareness of the new division I've been offered a job setting up.
I've got my old Skool ways of working which have done well for me I'm just checking if I'm missing out on something worth using as a tool. |

Ah apologies! It's the Data and Marketing Association - the sort of central bank for that type of thing in the UK. I can PM you with additional resources/information if you'd like? |

The CIM (Chartered Institute of Marketing) stuff is highly regarded in business and it may be worth asking your company if they'd be willing to pay for you to take a course or two, as its for their benefit. Even if it doesn't work out in the new role, you'll have a very transferrable and recognised skillset to take with you.
I'm just about to start an IT networking online course on a site called Alison.com, mainly to satisfy my own curiosity and fill a knowledge gap- no idea if they do digital marketing, but I did find quite a few free online training sites that seem to make their dosh from advertising, getting you to buy a certificate for your new found skills and upselling other courses- so its worth a mooch around and if you start something that doesn't really work for you, you've not lost anything. If it does, you'll at least have a bit of base knowledge if you undertake a more recognised training course.
Best of luck- every days a school day |

SEO is one of the things to use your company/products foot print online, but it's not free, generating lead by own you need connection and data, who (buyer) is looking for product, which your company can offer.
So my preference would in this direction;
1. Online presence (digital marketing advertising whatever is called)
2. Product visibility (YouTube/SM would be handy) with real people feedback captured in phone and upload)
3. Competitor product comparision and cost effective analysis (if any ) use social media for this.
4. Now after all this you need a buyer or who is interested, here SEO is Handy but comes with price.
5. Last one connect with people, i.e. if I am selling protein powder, which place I should visit and preach about my product? Gym, school, now you may not get buyer, but you will collect data and extending your connection if out of 10, 3 give there SM details, their friends will be your next contact.
