thinking of this... the argument can be made for godfather 2 over godfather.... and the empire strikes back over star wars.....

but can you think of many others.....

the only one i can really think of is the wrath of khan over star trek....

I thought Mission Impossible II was rubbish but III was really good.

Matrix, amazing, the other two not so.

Toy story II not so good but the next two great.

And don't get me started on Titanic II

Superman 2 Richard Donner cut.

1+2 filmed back to back but studio fired Richard half way through 2nd film. Feew years ago they found his footage and gave him the chance to redit his Superman 2 version.

'Evil Dead II' was great, much more going on than in the first, the humour was terrific and Bruce was really starting to find his way as Ash

Have to disagree about 'Aliens' being a superior film to 'Alien' though. I felt the second film was fairly typical of every other big budget macho-packed nonsense around at that time, no real depth - style over substance - by the numbers characters. The first was in a class of it's own - terrific! great characters with a real sense of the claustrophobic all the way through
