"It varies so much dependant on who is saying to me. I'm fine with and hate all the ones mentioned so far from different people!"
Same! I dont hate any particular name/phrase. It all comes down to who is saying it and in what situation and context it is said in.
In a none sexual way when I'm told to do something I'll quite often jokingly say "yes ma'am"
Also have to take in to account regional cultures. Being a scouser "mate" is thrown around a lot, I refuse to accept "lad" in it's place though... |

Doesn't bother me in the least how anyone addresses me as long as it's meant in a friendly way
Life is too short to get hung up on anything like that
But then it is 2019, seems we have to tread carefully around everyone these days so as not to offend |

Cringing at the spelling and missing words in my comment
But yeah, completely agree. Think I'd like ma'am though ! |

I'm not a fan of any term of endearment from anyone I am not familiar with. I particularly dislike babe, babes, baby, hun, hon, luv, lov, sweetheart, darling (there's only ever one person who can call me that).
I think "me duck" is quite funny though, that's said a bit further down the country from me.

Doesn't really bother me in the slightest ... people from different generations, back grounds and colliquelisms use different endearment why worry about such trivialities when people not speaking or socialising is way more worrying?
On here, in messages, I just personally think it's a reflection on their personality/back ground that means we might not get on but I say and if they repeat then it's a no
Surely there are bigger things to worry about? |

I hate “lad” as a term to address me, I’ve not been a “lad” for about 15 years. “Mate” I can deal with but, for some reason, “fella” has now started to grate on me, more than it used to.
I can often let “ma’am” slip, but that’s likely to be force of habit when addressing someone that may exude a particular sense of authority. |

Also, my own name. Sometimes I go by the full version and sometimes shortened. I only like certain people using each version and it gets my back up if they use the other. God help anyone trying to talk to me, it's a minefield |

I love all the regional phrases, like duck, hen, pet, so in normal life conversation, they make me smile.
Fab is a different thing, I hate being called babe, hun, luv.
The worse offender is bbe. Makes my blood boil. |

I'm that old now, I'm just grateful to receive a message with any name!! Lol
But all this is really difficult for us chaps. If you ladies don't like 'babe, hun, darling....' etc, should we just address you by your username? I'm happy to do that. |

A good looking girl in the supermarket keeps calling me sweetheart and it’s kinda turning me on (probably because she’s hot) but trying to listen to see if she’s calling anybody else that. I haven’t heard her yet. Gonna be right disappointed if I do. Lol |

I hate it when companies call me by my first name instead of Mr...
Maybe I'm an old fuddy-duddy but I think it's a sign of respect. I don't want to be friends with my electricity company. We're not down at the pub.

Don't let one of those supermarket temptresses turn your head, it'll end in tears.
I got all infatuated with one 2 years ago. Made a right idiot of myself.
But FFS she was (is) the most beautiful thing I'd ever seen. |

Apologies - wandering somewhat from the theme of the thread. |

"It always puzzles me slightly when some people insist on repeatedly referring to me by name, even when you're the only two people in the room. "
Oh I’ve had that. I realised it was because the guy was lying through his teeth.
To the OP ‘Fat slag’. I’m not generally keen on that one. |

Mine too. Almost exploded just trying to think of that and put it in to text speak. |

"Twat, bastard, cunt ect ect
Don't act like one then! "
This may be very controversial but I find it annoying that body parts are used this way. Who doesn’t love a cunt or a pussy? And this is not a feminist view as I feel the same way about other very tired stereotypes...

Its a fair point.
I partially agree, however I feel too much power is given to individual words, instead of the context they are used in. Lots of words have multiple uses, just because of associations, why can't these?
Fuck is the perfect example, it can be used and applied to every single situation and mean multiple things.
With that said! I know it's not easy to just shake off the power a word has gained over the years.
The comedian, George carlin has a great bit on the use of words and their context. |

"I hate being called mate by the opposite sex. Or bae. That word is lazy by one letter and make people sound like a place to walk the dog."
Bae = before all else
I asked my teenagers a while ago because it really winds me up |

True and point taken. This is probably not the right place to continue the discussion but Fuck is gender neutral....

Pal, Buddy.. or anything equally matey-like by anyone who doesn't know me, or isn't from North America.
"I'm not your Buddy, Pal".
I don't mind 'Mate' As it seems pretty bog standard greeting man-to-man across the UK.
Whereas the others seem a bit.. odd. |
