No. Its a dead vaccine.. Once injected it makes your own antibodies work to protect.
Echniecea helps and hand washing...
Nil else.
Or it would be bottled and sold! |

"Is there any way of being vaccinated against flu without having it injected?"
Good question. Had it recently by injection. It's only a small jab. Do you have a particular problem with needles? |

No, but you could close your eyes and pretend it's the mosquito biting. Just don't swat it. |

"Kids have the flu inoculation via their nose
Yes, I thought they did. I wonder if they'd consider that for an adult or if it would even be effective."
The skin mucosa of a child and adult are the same as far as I'm aware, so can't see why it wouldn't be effective in an adult |

No, I've had mine done, we both have. It's a family member and I'd really like them to have it |

"The injection is tiny and you can hardly feel it if that's your concern. Am sure there must be an alternative though. A pharmacist should be able to answer your question" what
I'll ask the pharmacist who did mine |

"Not that I'm aware of. I've had the flu jab for years never had a problem but then needles don't bother me
We've never had a problem either but someone we know is needle phobic"
I was when I was a child. I've got loads of tattoos and that's always multiple needles at once! I have yearly blood tests for thyroid function so I got over it. Flu needle is so tiny you barely feel it |

That's a bit like telling someone with a phobia of spiders it's only a tiny spider |

"Large doses of Vitamin C "
Nope. Its vit D you need in the winter
Most winter bugs are caused by lack of vit D
There are very few foods that contain it in sufficient quantities, and obvs there's not alot of sunlight |

"I do try to get outside during the day in the winter to get as much sunshine as possible.
I appreciate that not everyone is able to do that though."
I'm outside a lot and certainly every day but I feel I would benefit from Vitamin D. I think the NHS actually recommends it |

. Its not on my list of things to do before I die .
My mum was telling me in great detail about her friends coach trip to the main post sorting office. I nearly died of boredom on her behalf.
I'd decline that but for entirely different reasons I suspect |

I'm needle phobic, but a small jab in the arm is far far better than having the flu for a month, I never had the jab until I got flu a few years ago, I seriously thought I was going to die, gimme that needle!! |

"Just for clarity. This person is genuinely needle phobic, there is no method of administering an injection that would induce them to have one. "
I'd explain to the GP about this, and if they are in a high risk group for flu I would ask why they can't have the nasal version. |

Just had a little google. Certain people can have nasal spray, if under 50. But if they have certain conditions they can't have it. Difficult one... |

Yes, I'm going to speak to a pharmacist and then sort it if I can. Most people in the medical profession understand genuine needle phobia and offer treatment but persuading someone to get
the treatment is not easy |

I guess the only way if they can't have the nose spray is pray they don't get the flu!!
What about asking the doctor to prescribe a couple of Valium tabs to take before the injection? Like I get to fly on a plane. |

It's a thought certainly. The thing is that a phobia isn't the same as being scared. |

"Kids have the flu inoculation via their nose
Yes, I thought they did. I wonder if they'd consider that for an adult or if it would even be effective.
The skin mucosa of a child and adult are the same as far as I'm aware, so can't see why it wouldn't be effective in an adult "
More tolerable for children nasally ..
Better uptake..
(Sorry...nurse mode) |

My friend has been told to get a hyp*otherapist for her daughter as she is so phobic - she had the hpv injection at docs & couldn’t be told it was booked. She started panicking as soon as she realised where she was going & as soon as it was done she started having a very mild fit.
