Book - Alice in Sunderland, Bryan Talbot (it's a graphic actually, but it's brilliant).

Film - A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night - black and white Iranian horror vampire comedy with a mesmerising performance by a cat!

Gallery - Lady Lever in Port Sunlight, got an excellent collection of Pre-Raphaelites. And it's just down the road from Townhouse club where you can go afterwards and sample the wide selection of gins at their bar.

Music - Music for 18 Musicians, Steve Reich

Poem - Do not go gentle into that good night, Dylan Thomas

Long form poem - The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam

Date idea - on a warm evening, but just before the proper start of summer season, share a bag of chips at the end of a pier in a slightly dishevelled seaside town, feed the seagulls, laugh a lot, feel like you're both 16 years old again

Film: il Postino (Italian, beautiful, amusing and heart-warming with stunning scenery)

Art: The Bridge at Argenteuil by Monet

Museum etc.: The National Gallery in Trafalgar Square

Music: Navarra by Isaac Albéniz (a musical portrait of a Spanish town.

Poem: Pat by John Hegley (see below)

I said "Pat,

You are fat,

And you are cataclysmically desirable.

And to think I used to think slim

Was where it’s at.

Well not any more, Pat

You’ve changed that.

You love yourself.

You flatter yourself.

You shatter their narrow image of the erotic."

And she said

“What do you mean, fat?”
