Has anyone ever been ticketed in these or is it all a con.

Do the yellow cameras time the car between each camera and work out an average speed. Just asking for a friend..

Yes my son got done on the M62 for going 58 in a reduced 50 zone - speed awareness course

They do work, it’s not a con. Only two cameras are linked to each other tho, they are not all linked together. Say there are six cameras in a stretch of road then for instance, numbers 1 and 3 will be linked, 2 and 5 and 4 and 6. My son also got done recently on the m62, he was doing 58 in a 50 which is annoying as they will only do people doing over the cps guideline of 10% +2.

I doubt they put up the camera for fun and sat nav companies build in them to their devices if they didn't.

They definitely work and issue tickets, to the best of my knowledge there's no set sequence of which two are paired.

It could be the first and last, 2 and 3 etc,

The old myth was changing lanes stopped them tracking you but it isn't true.

If you've knowingly done say 60 in a 50 for half a mile you'd need to do 40 for the same distance to bring the average down.

Quite often you'll see signs saying "not in operation" so I guess they've been turned off or not commissioned yet

Hiding in the shadows

They do work, and I don't understand people who insist on speeding through them

Monday I drove through a long 50mph stretch, which then became 60

I was on cruise control, outside lane, bang on 60

Passing everything in the middle lane

A complete twunt came up behind me, sat right up my arse, beeping his horn flashing his lights, backing off then repeating.

I couldn't pull over, there was not a gap big enough, I wasn't going to speed up, get caught by the cameras, points on my license just for him.

I spotted a clear patch ahead & was going to pull into it, he accelerated before me, pulled inside me, sat alongside making gestures, then swerved his car, twice. Attempting to push me over to the central barrier!

He then sped off!

He's been reported, I know he went past 1 camera speeding.

I hope he loses his license.

People like him should not be on the road

They definitely work... set your cruise control and drift along and you’ll be fine

It's only a guideline though, a work colleague got done(deservedly IMO) for doing 52 in a 50 because it was foggy and they classed it as dangerous.

They work and are there for a reason.. stay at the average or a mph or 2 less and your friend won't be in any trouble.

This is where dashcams come into their own I had a person do this in February and the police too action and he got 6 points and a £400 fine.

"Do you know who sets the speed limit on the new smart motorways"

The Association of Chief Police Officers are those responsible for speed limits..

Just finished a speed awareness course.. very interesting. .

In short pay attention to signage and dont go over it..

The motorists set the speed limits, the sensors react to the traffic flow and behaviour of traffic and adjust accordingly

I had one, but I dropped it, cleaning out the car.

I'm definitely buying a new one now, and with rear camera too.

I fed up with idiots like this, and since buying my new car, I seem to encounter it everytime I go out

Do you know that people who drive daily break the speed limit on avarage of 5 times a day, unless the use a limiter religiously

A few weeks later 3 points and a fine he said those bloody cameras do work lol

Now I set the cruise control at 50 although there seems to be a different speed limit for the lorries that fly past lol

I’m not quite sure that everyone gets what they do when you watch how many speed up after them then brake when they get to the next one

Yes they do work according to a friend of mine.

Makes me laugh when I see people slow down to pass them at the correct speed, clearly not understanding how they work.

The distance between the cameras is known and is fixed.

The cameras record every vehicle that passes and, using ANPR, logs registration numbers.

The same happens at the next camera.

As the distance between the cameras is known, the time it takes to cover that distance at the speed limit is also known.

Any vehicle that has covered the distance in less time is automatically issued a ticket.

It's fully automated.

Dash cams with speed are not considered as evidence and cannot be used in court as a defence as far as I'm aware. They are now giving knobs off the street, who have nothing better to do with their time, hand helds who can report you. Their not currently acceptable in court yet bit it is the way of things are going.

Set your cruise control at 70 and you’ll soon see how poor peoples speed discipline is in general.

The ones hammering the breaks before an average speed camera always raises an eyebrow and then they speed off

Certainly do. You have to be notified within 14 days from the day after the offence.

It seems some do and some dont. If you see a taxi or truck horsing it, the cameras dont work. Go for it.

I find that the best thing to do with these cameras is not speed. If you dont speed then you one get a ticket. Hope that helps

Thank you

It wasn't what I'd call upsetting.

I'm not a person to panic under pressure, I'm also a qualified emergency response driver, trained in tactical driving. His attempts to intimidate me didn't work.

But it could have been catastrophic if he'd tried it on someone else, and that makes me angry.

I did what I could, the only way I could.

Having someone contact me today, repeatedly for an hour, explaining what I did wrong, how I should have dealt with the situation, how I was at fault, trying to mansplains my errors.

That made me really angry

Newport Pagnell

They have them where I live and the local data for prosecutions begins at 37mph so I presume anything under that is not prosecuted (although I stick to 30 so don't know).

One idiot was going over 70 once! I hope they had the book thrown at them.

I would have done what you did. If you accelerated you would risk a ticket and he would probably have continued tailgating you.

And as you said. Nothing worse than mansplaining..

west here ford shire

A few yrs ago on m5 north of Worcester they installed avg speed cameras, most people assumed that you could speed up between them etc, my understanding was West Mercia police had a national record of the number of motorists caught over the average speed ever recoded in a 48 hour period
