Idiom of the day 'TheBee's Knees' When you refer to something as 'the bee's knees', itmeans that it is of excellent or very high quality. ... Some people believe that it is a reference to the fact that bees carry pollen in sacks on their knees, and thatthe expressiontherefore alludes to this concentrated goodness.
Thanks to Google lol x

It's a little known fact that during bronze age hunts the most successful huntsman was awarded with a garland made from the knees of now extinct bussombees. These bees were 3 feet tall and usually called Malcolm. Anyway.. It was a great honour to receive the garland because it meant you were the best. Hence, "The Bees Knees"
Or I might just have made it up? |

"Same goes for "the dogs bollocks"... I mean, since when did being compared to a canines testicles become the gold standard for being good? "
Yes seems a bit of a backhand compliment. |

Well, Google says..
If something "takes a lot of licking (beating)", then its the best. As a dog tends to lick their balls a lot, they take a lot of beating, so they must be the best.
Therefore, if something is "the dogs bollocks", then its the best. |
