Going Swimming

Just called our local baths to find out when it was open for public swim, noon - 1pm is the only time available, the rest of the day is taken up by scuba diving and swimming clubs, when I was young you could go the baths anytime and just go straight in, it seems these days that baths don't really cater for the public much, OK its an hour which is probably long enough as I'll have little miss with me, but back then i'd spend nearly all day with my mates in the baths, anyone else find their baths have reduced the hours you can just go in and have a splash?

Yes Mally,

I've turned up at times you'd expect them to be open and they are not.

I used to swim over Xmas and other hols. They were only shut Xmas Day and Boxing Day. Now they are privately owned they shut for the hols ? When can people swim if they close with public hols ?

They even closed early on Xmas Eve!

yes seems the only adult swims here are at the strangest of times etc and the most i have found is an hour tops.

prefer adult time a no screaming kids about plus don't have to fit in with the full length suits most seems to wear.

can manage my bikini just fine and good to get others comments there if there brave enough to ask!

Our pools are open all day, during the hols they will be full of kids but it was always like tht. There are set baby swims in term time, but they stay in the shallow bit so you can still swim if you want.

Swimming classes do take up the 3;30 till 6 slot, but i presume people think its a good thing that children are learning to swim.

Adult only swim is presumably in the evening so people can go after work

I know exactly what you mean, they are hardly any open swimming, swim club, aqua aerobics, over 60's (they are shy) women only, special needs or something...

I don't mind it being closed for the school swim (I am reasonable)

Long gone are they days if the pool was open you could swim.

Cambridge is fine, there are alot of swimming pools. alot are in gyms but you can pay to use them on a day by day basis.. alot don't allow kids.. but there are always the places like bedford oasis, which has a large pool area, jaccuzzis and waters slides, and a wave machine which is great for kids and also doesnt close for private swimming lessons/ diving etc etc etc

I will avoid the swimming pools at all costs during the easter break, they seem to be full of screaming little human beings that i dont particularly like

Ours has two pools... One gets used for classes And parties the other is open for swimming most of the time... It's sometimes adult only swimming.

I like the pool at Mansfield... As kids love the slides and wave machine.

Yeah we have one pool 4 miles away that has all the waves and slides and stuff, and then another in hexham that is 9 miles away that is more traditional. It is great having the choice.
