The wage game

Simply put the annual wages you'd pay if you were in charge next to the job, you can only use each wage once.
I appreciate that there are different levels to each role ie moviestar v soap star but it's not that serious if that makes sense.

The majority of those jobs involve skills and training.
Several involve a minimum level of physical fitness.
Some have regulatory bodies, require demonstration of continued education and professional development, and have sanctions for inadequate performance (including losing one's job).
The only job that doesn't appear to have any of these requirements is 'politician'.
Arguably, the loudest group when defending their own year-on-year above-inflation salary increases as 'it's important to attract the right people into the job' and imposing below-inflation salary increases on everybody else (excepting footballers and actors).
MPs salary 2010 £65,740 / 2019 £79,470
UK median salary 2010 £25,880 / 2019 £29,570
Personally, I'd like some kind of accountability from our politicians if they mess up.
No mealy mouthed apology, sacked from the Cabinet and through the revolving door and back into a different Ministerial job a few months later, or rewarded with a daily allowance Peerage.
Proper accountability.
Waste £500,000,000 on not reorganising the Fire Service. Sacked. Out of a job.
Watch porn at work and then lie about it. Sacked. Out of a job.
Meet members of a foreign government whilst on holiday and lie about it. Sacked. Out of a job.
Accountability.

"Your top figure doesn’t cover a Doctors annual salary even at their lowest (dependant upon field of work)
Nor does it cover footballers who are grossly overpaid "
Yep Cristiano Ronaldo was paid around 97 million last year. He would laugh at a paltry 100 k |

if your son or daughter come home as 17yr old footballers and said mum theyv offered me £5000 per week, would your reply be? no thats outrageous refuse it? nope it wouldn't, then 5yrs later they wanted to negotiate a wage increase to £200K a week would you say son/daughter thats obscene to ask/get that? nope you wouldn't. its all relevant to the amount of money in football and the limited amount of players who can perform at the highest level and can make the clubs, tv networks very very rich. yes doctors, fire fighters etc deserve more of course but footballers waged get compared to others very very unfairly in my opinion |

A low wage for full time work in the north east is about 19k so 10k is way too low unless it's part time. |

NHS Foundation year salary is £26,614
Few doctors earn over £100K as NHS salaries are nowhere near this and private work is a rarity for most.
Here are some representative values:

I'm with these two..
Just because a doctor takes more training than a nurse, doesn't make them a better person.
We couldn't function without one another.

Some of those jobs may take 7yrs to train and need a great deal of intelligence to complete training.
Yet armed forces, police, nurses and paramedics have their lives risked on a daily basis.
Can you put a price on the life of someone protecting yours? |

I'm of the opinion that anyone who can argue the opposite is either stupid.. or protecting the status quo, because they beneficiaries of it and dont really give a fuck about the rest of us.
If I became rich overnight from something I'd created.. I'd keep my money, because the world is the way it is, I couldnt change things, I got there on my own steam and am entitled to. I'd still hold the same views I do now though.
That some jobs are vastly overpaid, others vastly underpaid.
It's odd what society deems our worth is. |

While I do agree that footballers and actors/actresses are over paid, their money is generated through popularity, and supply and demand. They wouldn't be on those kinds of wages if people were not so obsessed by them and what they do (I say this as a huge movie fan).
Politicians on the other hand well...

A very subjective question OP, and one posed with a pay ranking format not allowing for remuneration bandings within any such defined role.
For Doctors and Nurses, for example, the swing between entry level wage and top earning salaries is vast.
The Actors / Actresses criteria isn't clear in terms of level (A list versus Z list?) - this has, however, been defined in the footballing category.
Factory workers should be financially rewarded at the bottom end of the scale without doubt - followed by Armed Forces / Fire / Police service personnel.
In some cases, Nurses (public sector) and Teachers deserve to be paid more than they are currently.
Personally, I fall into an entirely different occupation category altogether and do ok (and am immensely glad that I'm not suppressed by the pay structure as laid out by the OP) - anyway, time for another cocktail in the Mediterranean sunshine!...
Cheers!! |

You really put a footballer over the Armed Forces? Not outcry, more.. disappointment.
Armed Forces not only risk their lives for your continued freedom and global financial security. They back up the other emergency services when they decide to go on strike, or need the extra help. |

Considering no army has attempted to invade these shores since 1945, yes I do.
Clearly this is a light hearted thread that is to be taken out of context. Such things shouldn't depress you dude. |

Of course they do it wasn't meant to be an accurate report on what people actually earn
It was a light hearted thread to see where people would place and pay them on the random amount I put

You misread.. chose to ignore something key I said.. or it didnt register..
"global financial security"
You know.. conflicts like Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya etc.
The conflicts that British service personnel die in so that you lot can live comfortably. Helping keep the United Kingdom financially secure by gaining other nations resources? If not, we'd be much poorer than we are.
Northern Ireland? Men and women died trying to maintain civil peace, or enforce it.. depending on your view point.
Also you got your dates wrong pal.. Falkland Islands are British property last time I looked it up.
Lots of British Forces died defending those homes.
But nevermind that.. enjoy your football.. Way more important in the grand scheme of things isn't it? |

So I don't get accused of being argumentative and not joining in the spirit of a thread that's pretty controversial by it's very nature.
Footballers 30k (no risk).
Armed forces 40k (risk their lives, but not on a daily basis).
Nurse 50k (Save lives and often in danger being on frontline of NHS).
Doctor 60k (Save lives - lots of training required).
Teacher 40k (No substantial life risk, but vital to future of our nation).
Fireman 50k (often risk their own lives to save others, but not on a daily basis).
Actor/actress 30k (risk free).
Factory worker 30k (risk free - dependant on nature of factory).
Police man/woman 60k (risk of life on a daily basis).
Politician 30k (no risk of life, should do the job because they genuinely care, not for financial gain).
Human life to me is sacrosanct, if you're going to ask men and women to risk theirs to save yours, you should pay them appropriately.
Many people would love to be professional footballers or entertainers of some variety. There job is not essential to the running of society, it's a luxury we cant afford to pay.
Not when those who do and risk so much to protect, save or improve things for the rest of us. |
