Well they squish it don't they and you gulp and then they proceed to give it another flatten which makes you want to swear. |

You’re really bringing it all back to me. I was massaging my boobs for days afterwards. Got a lot of funny looks in the office. |

Certainly does! I had a cyst in one of my boobs at the time so it hurt like feck and made me cry! |

I worry for the ladies with small boobs, uncomfortable enough when the gals are large I had a recall on mine the other week. A very scary few days but all ok thankfully |

I know the OP didn’t intend it to turn this way but it’s quite nice to be able to have this convo with other women. I wonder if should start a thread on colposcopies..? |

Hey, don't worry, i think it's great. Besides it's a good opportunity to educate men on a subject possibly some of them know nothing about. Keep it going. |

I've had a few of those,I dread seeing a particular doctor at the hospital as she's so rough. The nurse asked her if she wanted lube and she said no,erm how about asking me . The guy that did it before her was so much more gentle and was explaining everything on the screen. I'm on yearly checkups at the mo. |

I was for years. Was properly traumatised by a doctor down south years ago. Had one up here more recently and whilst not pleasant it was trivial discomfort in comparison. Generally though I wish they’d find somewhere else to shove their silver nitrate. The whole thing is pretty barbaric. |

I really think some doctors should be required to undergo the procedure themselves if they're unsympathetic to the patient. |

It seems to me that many of the physical examinations women have to undergo to stay healthy are pretty barbaric.
I don't think most men realise just how easy we have it. |

I often say this about some of the procedures women need. I had a hysteroscopy a few years back and insisted on having gas and air. The nurse commented on how much easier it was because I was more relaxed and said maybe they should use it more often. I personally think it should be standard for a lot of these procedures |

I know but you'd think if anything the woman would be more gentle, but she just shoved the speculum inside me which made me gasp. I didn't like her one bit she didn't explain things to me properly, one minute she's saying don't worry the next she's saying you must be really worried. Well no woman because you told me not to,roll on April if I see her I'm off. |

it's really difficult to tell a doctor they're doing it wrong too. I hope she's left and you get someone who appreciates that a few seconds to use lube and calm a patient works wonders |

Honestly I did not like her one bit,I think she just wanted me to have a hysterectomy and be done with rather than going back and forth all the time. I'm praying for a normal smear test next April. |

I understand where you're coming from. I recently saw a consultant who made me very uneasy. I don't trust the advice she gave me one bit. Luckily she didn't need to carry out any invasive procedures. |

It's horrible isn't it,I hate going there by myself as it is and then to not trust those that are there to hopefully make things better for you is rubbish. I hope you do find someone who's advise you can trust. |

"Do you think that because we don't discuss these things much the barbaric practices continue?
Gosh I hope not now there's a thought "
It was only when I virtually refused to have the procedure done that they suggested gas and air. It was the same when I needed a cystoscopy.
Because it's over in a few minutes (that seem like hours) we tend to be relieved it's over and try to forget about it I think. |

It is normally the year you turn 50. They work their recalls in postcode areas so some get it at 49 and occasionally 51 depends when they are covering your area. |

I've never found it painful. It's awkward the position you need to stand in and certainly not comfortable but I've never experienced pain. I guess they need to be able to xray or scan or whatever it is deep into the tissue. |

Yes. They have to hold them VERY firmly. It’s not about us trying to squeeze supersized boobs into an average boob sized container. |

I had my first one earlier this year, had a few scary weeks whilst they were trying to determine if my breast calcifications were cancerous or not. After going through two biopsies, the next mammogram was a breeze compared to them! |

I had cervical cancer at 21 - I was pregnant at the time - so probably the nicest bastard I've ever had in my life! The colposcopy not the baby
I find mammograms a necessary trial as well - I'm quite short so I find myself trying to pretend I'm a contortionist on tiptoes!
I've been lucky to be screened early several times now due the breast cancer gene in the family.
