Is this site a social science experiment?

I’ve seen a variation of the following blurb below on quite a few people’s profiles. Is this site being used for an experiment of some sort and is out data being used by them? Anyone else know anything about this?
Should we care?

We've noticed a legal disclaimer paragraph that some people have on their profiles. Should we have one too? What are they about? Do they do any good?
The "legal disclaimer" is pointless nonsense and all does is take up extra space on our servers. Please remove it if you have it on your profile. If you're worried about privacy please set your account to be hidden from non-registered users on your privacy page (this also hides it from search engines but may take a week or two to drop out of search) and remove the notice (and encourage others to do likewise).
Common sense advice would be NOT to put any information on your profile (here, or on any such site) that could identify you or that you don't want to become public! So for your own benefit, don't post phone numbers, real names or email / instant message addresses on your profile that people might see or "Google".
Some people may put non-identifying pics on their public profile but keep face pics private or for friends, for example.
The above is from the site FAQs. |

See site FAQs about why these warnings are just a waste of server space. Fabadmin ask that people are encouraged to remove them.
Would you pay a solicitor to pursue someone legally for using a pic of your cock or boobs? If it wasn’t a criminal offence I can’t imagine I would. |

"I'd care if i were you, i dont though but exeter university analyse porn and the people associated with it, the pics are used in local advertising you could be famous for your cock "
...what local advertising would use cock pictures?
"Come to Dingles for all your hairdressing needs, and here's a picture of a cock" doesn't sound hugely likely...

If Exeter Uni want to use my cock they're welcome to it. Nobody else does. |

Whenever you see that bollox, send them a message that you have stole their pictures.
Its amazing what people believe to be true, just because they read it on facebook.
Social experiment? Go see your GP.

It's meaningless bullshit.
What amuses me more is that as a previous poster alluded to, the profiles that use it more often are those with either a blurry cock shot, a close up of a nipple or bugger all in the way of pics and the likes of "Looking for fun and frolicks (spelling mistake intended) We're a genuine couple and we'd like to meet women, couples."
I mean who the hell would want to plagiarise either images or text from that?

"Don't know about the social science experiment part but it does make for a fascinating view of people's behaviour and preferences."
If it's not been the subject of academic research, it should be.
I do believe that the University of Sydney has an excellent gender studies department. |

"It's an urban legend spread by people who don't know any better. "
I think you are probably right about that. Also, for sure we would have been made explicitly aware - I’d hope |

Thank you all for the comments I can rest assured my cock pics or messages or comments will not be used for some social science experiment anytime soon. I had a feeling it was a case of fear that spread from one profile to another without anyone really doing the research before adding the clause. |

I have a satirical piss take of that disclaimer on my profile, a few people I've spoken to said they didn't read it because they thought it was the usual bollocks...
I like the ones that say Sydney Uni; fill your boots etc...

I have some experience in academia. Tbh it wouldn't make any difference having a disclaimer or not. If for example I was doing sociological research and using fab to get data I wouldn't be using anyones name or details. We'd always annonymise info or use pseudonyms. Any research design would get approved by an ethics committee to make sure its safe for any participants. |
