being Mr Average, on a night out if I attempt to chat a woman up I get brushed off. But to even make it that far, first i need to get past the thought of; if I were to try I'll surely get kicked in by the brick sh!t house bf I hadnt noticed.

That's easier said than done. What I would recommend is to surround yourself with good people that want to genuinely see you succeed and grow, and not secretly want to laugh. Support is important until you're comfortable.
