Right, I'm going to stick my neck out with some predictions for the weekend. I'm sure I'll end up with egg on my face, but here goes:

* England scrapes to a narrow victory over Australia after a brutal encounter.

* New Zealand beats Ireland, but it;s also fairly close and it takes until very late in the game to secure it. NZ plays a poor first half.

* South Africa beats Japan. Reasonably comfortable brave call, I know) but not a thumping.

* Wales very convincingly beats France by well over 20 points.

So the semi-finals would then be:

New Zealand v England

Wales v South Africa

i think we sort of get to the same place but via different methods...

*I have england beating Australia fairly comfortably.... england have the greater strength in depth an will bossed the scrum the england pack win this one for me

*new zealand vs ireland.... this is the closest of the 4 for me! comes down to sexton (johnny) vs barrett (beauden) for me... whoever plays better wins! it comes down to the last 10 minutes and new zealand scrape it

*japan vs south africa..... if i am the saffer coach, I just put on the 2015 south africa vs japan game the day before... and say to the boys "don't let that happen again"

if i am the japan coach..... i just put on the 2015 south africa vs japan game, and say "you are good enough to do that again!"

they are not! south africa win this one going away!

*wales vs france..... as we always say "it depends on which france decides to show up!" we saw what happens when france show up vs wales... the 2019 1st half of the 6nations game!, we have also seen what happens when they fall to bits... the 2nd half of the same 6nations game....

france have been closer to "falling to bits" than supreme french flair this tournament..... wales win!

looking at the irish 15 for tomorrow... i thing i would have gone with the same side.... the battle in the back row forwards is going to be epic.... sometimes i do wonder if o'mahony and stander kinda trample over what each other do best at 6 and 8...... the new zealanders i feel can be got at.... have to say not the biggest fans of lennert-brown and goodhue at 12 and 13.... i think ireland have a massage advantage there with ringrose and henshaw... with rob kearney coming back to deal with the high ball at 15

Interesting how Johnny Sexton was the only Irish player at the venue today.

if i was johnny i'd use today to get some kicking practice in....

looking at the irish 15 for tomorrow... i thing i would have gone with the same side.... the battle in the back row forwards is going to be epic.... sometimes i do wonder if o'mahony and stander kinda trample over what each other do best at 6 and 8...... the new zealanders i feel can be got at.... have to say not the biggest fans of lennert-brown and goodhue at 12 and 13.... i think ireland have a massage advantage there with ringrose and henshaw... with rob kearney coming back to deal with the high ball at 15"

I hope you are right. Ireland are due a big performance too and with it potentially being Joe's last match in charge I think they will be a different animal tomorrow. Their bench is formidable too. Alot of heavy hitters to come in

It's going to be a hard game that's for sure. The kiwis have had a alot of time to prep as well having not played last weekend.

It's going to come down to endurance and discipline. One card could make all the difference and we all know the kiwis can go 100% for the 80 mins.

Looking forward to a cracking game!

I think we'll labour the first half and Ireland may even be ahead at half time. Will be better in the second half and win the match but not convincingly.

French coach making point that in french top 14, suffering 2 concussions would mean automatic 3 weeks out .

Same article noted that biggar and warburton had recently criticised french rugby for not taking concussion seriously .

The fact that Japan have been practicing against 10 man scrums and the Bokke have a 6/2 bench should tell you what the Springbok game plan is. Don't expext a pretty game. The backs won't be seeing much of the ball. Japan's only chance is to duck into some tackles to get a yellow or a red.
