" Just go do something anything at the gym every little bit helps just push it will all pay off in the end and be worth it "
That's my strategy I know going and only doing one set will always be vastly superior to how I will feel later if I dont go

"I never go to the gym, bores me "
Just curious how this helps the OP with any sort of positive attitude
One could be forgiven for thinking you could be ridiculing anyone of us for which habitually going to a gym is an immensely positive part of our lives
I prefer the results and endorphin/dopamine rush I get from lifting than how I feel after 30 k run , however I do not condemn running its highly beneficial as part of a rounded fitness regime?
One reason I ho is for safe strength improvement, full range of joint mobility, and muscular balance, I wonder how varied your non gym work is so you ensure your muscles remain balanced |

I assume you realise "gym" work is only one small part of my wellbeing activities, that I'm an advocate of cross training
You say out of proportion, I say you were motivated to write with reply to a help motivate a person that implicitly said the gym is boring, not worth going
I mearly counter your implication
Well done on enjoying other activities, I have no compulsion to know what they are or to suggest they would bore me , that indeed would not be classy xxx ![](/icons/s/2/halo.gif) |

I don't go to the gym because I'm not motivated and don't have any interest in it. But I do go swimming 3 to 5 times a week. I don't need to make myself do that because the thought of going itself motivates me. Because I enjoy it. I guess what I'm trying to say is if it's something you do because you feel you should then it's always going to be a battle to stay motivated. Just my 2 cents. |

"never really enjoyed gym prefer competitive sport its offers more in terms of motivation and you push yourself harder because you want to win "
Plenty of competitive sport where the training is mostly if not all gym based.
It's whatever floats your boat really. |

There and to the left a bit |
Having just joined a gym for the first time ever today, reading this with interest, of course right now my motivation is high or I wouldn't have joined, but may need to come back to this in January when it's freezing out and snow is on the ground etc |

When i trained regularly with someone, I would never miss a session, As it would have let them down & they probably thought the same. You can`t always motivate yourself & once you start missing days, it`s only a matter of time before you give up. |

It’s true that it’s just being active that counts, finding something or a way of trading that dosent feel like a chore helps.
My motivation is simply I feel better after, I have tiny objectives that lead to a big goal but it’s mainly my metal Healy that benefits the most from knowing I’m working hard to achieve progress |

I'd suggest you are very lucky and very rare with regards to never feeling like not going
I too am a water baby, I open water swim , surf kite surf , m bike, climb , winterclimb amongst a few pass times that I more than enjoy doing however like most humans I know my endocrine system fluctuates as does the weather and life events, in all cases above I have at least once questioned should I stay or go , quite normal and a small inward chat and maybe some reading, pictorial inspiration just keeps me on track
Most activities require effort, sometimes internal computer thinks body won't enjoy the effort, internal computer maybe right or wrong
I feel structured gym work compliments other activities, giving strength and mobility balance
I also feel we all do or perhaps should spend time learning things , not because we love the studious act but because of the benefit we feel it provide our future ?
That said
Rule one
Do something regularly you enjoy
Rule 2
keep doing it
Beyond that advice should be goal based
One of my goals is agility mobility and as pain free for as long as I can ,
For me this means , eating a wide variety of nutrients, weight training for , bone density , retain muscle density, strength, balance and endocrine stability, coupled with a wide number of varied enjoyable pastimes
Very few need a gym
However I dont think it unreasonable to suggest a gym should contain equipment that can be beneficial to wellbeing that can be hard to safely replicate, and I greatly advocate calisthenics and for me it's a large part of my training , but without good guidance the average person struggles with the progressions

I agree. I wouldn't ever bother with the gym because I know I wouldn't go but I'll happily go swimming a few times a week. I get to have a shower for free and nobody minds if I leave it running while my hair treatment works. I admit on nights like tonight when its pouring with rain and a bit chilly I could easily be put off neither Mr N nor I want to be the first to give in ![](/icons/s/twisted.gif) |

I didn't say I never feel like not going
Of course there are days when I actually don't want to. But I don't force myself to go and don't beat myself up because I didn't go. 3 to 5 times a week works for me. |

Sometimes convincing oneself to go is a positive action , this does NOT mean I think chillin is a negative it too is positive
And no one is beating anyone up for not going
Listening to ones body is vital , however it has many voices and sometimes they conflict |

My gym is pretty much next door to my office so I'm quite lucky as I always go after work or occasionally for a quick session at lunchtime. It makes notivatin much easier than getting home and then heading back out |

I am fortunate in that my gym is less than a 10 minute cycle ride away. I don't enjoy though, it's sheer self discipline that keeps me going three times a week. |

I make the first thing I do in the day (yes I do put on clothes etc first) - my gym kit is ready the night before and it has become a habit.
The other thing for me is no matter how bad the last of the day is or what I do it don’t do, I know I have been to the gym, given myself a damn good beasting and achieved something. |
