We are turning off all power in our house tonight at 20:30 for Earth Hour.
Anyone else?
I think a game of 'I spy' would prove difficult whilst we pass the time |

It may be very much self defeating in the longer term. Why?
Darkness, often followed nine months later by a surge in births. The world is already far too overpopulated in relation to it's sustainable resources.
It is a miniscule token effort that will have little or no effect, and generally will not change peoples attitudes to power one little bit.
Jeez, can you also imagine the side effects? Parents may have to talk to, interact and play with their kids? Ye gads. |

I’m a genuine supporter of any initiative which attempt to highlight the negative effects on this planet by humanity’s present dependency on non renewable energy sources ….!.
BUT!!!!!! According to some of those clever-clog enviro-science type people who use maths to prove theory ……
In order to roll back global warming and develop alternatives sources of sufficient renewable energy we'd have to manufacture and install 100 square meters of solar cells every second for 20 years, or 50 square meters of solar thermal capacity every second for next 25 years.
If we manufacture and install enough hydroelectric power station to harvest all the energy available from the flow of all the rivers in the world, it would only supply half of humanity's current energy use.
If we manufacture and install enough equipment to harvest all the energy available from the actions of the tides around the world it would only supply 1/5 of humanity's current energy use.
For wind energy we'd need to manufacture and install one of the most efficient wind turbines presently available every 5 minutes for 25 years.
Or to utilise geothermal energy we'd need to manufacture and install 3 massive steam turbines every day for 25 years.
For bio-fuels we'd need to cover essentially the size of Idaho and Wyoming with genetically engineered algae.
Oh,,,, and of course we’d still need to use up heaps of fossil fuels to manufacture and install these greener alternatives…….
Hmmmmmm so if they’ve got the sums right,,,,,,,, it kinda make ya wonder is this earth hour is nothing more than token gesture …. Don’t it Eh!!!!

pointless political posturing.
much better off whacking the heating up fukk, leave the car running uncase you wanna nip to the shop for a can of cheap cider or a can of hairspray, and leve the fridge door open.
still wont make a blind bit of difference.
not only is there no way of reversing the trend, there is compelling evidence that a lot of it is down to the earths natural cycle.
lets not forget, we have just had, last year, the coldest winter for many years. |

Yep, the earth's natural cycle that creates Gas and Coal in multi million year cycles. I'm just waiting for the next batch to come out of the oven.
Of course, nature did provide abundant thorium, we just need to perfect how to make it work.

Hello all,
just because you switch of the power doesn't mean the power stations will stop running, if the load dips they keep running, just less efficiently.
