In a statement theres a suggestion from the chief medical officdr(dame sally davies) that snackss should be banned on public transport to help with the countries obesity crisis.
Last time I travelled on public transport I didn't see that many folk snacking ...
Do you think it'll help or big bro' sticking its nose in.

What if you're rushing from one job to another having already got your kids up and out to school and it's your only chance to catch 5 minutes to eat?
Bloody stupid.

Honestly I think it's a joke. If they banned eating on public transport I would have days I only ate one meal or I wouldn't get my dinner until 10:30 at night. If you're travelling long distance or sometimes I've had to take journeys with three changes and not enough time between them to get food and eat it. Sometimes I leave work at 5:30 and get straight on a train to London. |

It's too much of an invasion of people's personal choices. People shouldn't litter with packaging from food they bought, fair enough, but can you imagine a train guard stopping you from eating something based on its calories? Are they going to stop peopleeeating an apple? It's not very workable. |

Every time I get on a bus theres someone crunching and slobbering their way through a bag crisps. Had a row with a woman who sat down next to me and stared crunching an apple. Dont think It'll do any thing for obesity but may do for common decency. |

Eating on the train is generally OK but I find the cutlery and wine glass tend to fall off my tray when a bus lurches to a stop.
Seriously though? Completely unenforceable and is this for one stop bus rides / 10 minutes on the tube or does it include 4 hours on a coach and Penzance to Edinburgh on the train?
Prof Dame Sally 'Silly' Davies needs to get a life. |

I like and respect her but haven't read her guidance on this. To reduce our increasing levels of obesity, we are probably going to have to make several types of changes, in coordinated and sustained ways. I'd only like the government to become involved when there is substantial and clear evidence that their strategies are effective.
I could see that potentially we could improve food options close to train stations etc, to possibly improve health levels. But counteracting the trend for obesity levels to increase, is going to need more than just dietary changes, in all likelihood.
I understand that simple changes that have good results, would probably have more potential for the government to get behind them but it strikes me that this could struggle to gain full public support as well as possibly not being the best thing to change. Such a thing should only start after significant research concludes this is successful and better than other approaches that the same investment could achieve. |

Obviously alcohol and tobacco should be banned , motorists should not be allowed to drive past schools even at 20 mph . They should switch off, get out and push. Electric cars should be the only legal cars from 1 jan 2020. Speed bumps should be placed on all UK roads every 20m including motorways . Screen time on mobile phones limited to 30 mins per day . Desserts banned in restaurants. Full fat and semi skimmed banned. Muesli and de caff tea/ coffee made compulsory for breakfast . For starters |

"She has got people talking about obesity and health.
Which probably was the objective.
"
This they often make 'suggestions' which immediately gets the Daily Mail readers hot under the collar. Almost impossible to Police, but at least we are talking about obesity again |

"I think that the "authorities" are floundering around trying to find a solution to obesity and coming up with adverts that nobody takes much notice of and unworkable restrictions.
"
I agree. I don't think they can win. If they suggest healthy eating they are accused of fat shaming. |

Exactly. Until we can all have an honest conversation about obesity and its causes without people getting upset it's going to continue to be a problem.

It's a bit of a daft proposal really. I disagree with eating on buses but trains and coaches are long journeys and people need to eat.
The government should ban the practice of shop assistants asking if you want any £1 chocolate or sweets when paying for your goods as part of their obesity reducing campaign x |

From what we saw of her interview on the tv this morning she was trying to defend her statement by saying there was uproar when smoking was banned on public transport , the women is a nutter .
We as ex smokers could see why smoking was banned as it is not nice to be breathing in someone else's smoke emissions but no one is forcing their choccy bar or McDonalds down your throat |
