Following on from another thread about chances. I wondered what reasons/excuses have you been given in the past.

Here are the ones I have received:

1) dropped phone

2) family member rushed to hospital X2

3) car crash

4) work emergency

5) personal injury and had to be hospitalised

6) decided to get pissed instead and too hanging to meet

7) left to meet and sat in the layby and bottled it.

There maybe more that I have forgotten or blanked from my memory!

What genuine reasons have you given?

What cancellation reasons have you been given?

9) they forgot they had football practice with the lads, lads, lads.

Genuine ones I've given, ridiculous traffic, I wont be home early enough. Tends to be weeknights. Or before I had my operation, and my gallstones were playing up and I had planned something. I would have to say I'm just not up to it, or I was still in the hospital.

Shit does happen sometimes. I've only given someone the benefit of the doubt once though... he stood me up a second time.

Its different if you have met someone before.

If they are still a relative stranger it's difficult to accept any reason given as genuine.

I’ve always turned up and I think only once been let down. They just didn’t turn up and then gave the reason:

“we didn’t think you was going to turn up”

I found that quite weak

I did legitimately cancel my first play meet because I suddenly landed in hospital. Those who didn't slag me off, got photographic evidence!

We've been cancelled on by two people one more than once. The reasons given seemed plausible except one but the least plausible was probably the truth .

Once someone has cancelled we think the moment passes anyway but we're sometimes prepared to give one chance.

I’ve only cancelled twice....

Once I was ill, sent home from work and I told them two days before the meet I would t be able to make it; and

the second privacy and trust broken

Other than that, I’m there if I say I’m going to be there

I've cancelled once, I just wasn't feeling it anymore and told him a week before we were meant to meet.

I've postponed once because I was ill.

I’ve had just the husband of a supposed couple turn up saying that the wife was ill but to carry on anyway. I turned him away at the door

Another good one I’ve had is there’s been a fire in her baby sitters place of work (a nursery) so she’s very shaken up and needs to be looked after by her instead that evening.

And finally one charming lady waited until the morning of the meet a couple of hours before to ask “and how much am I getting paid?” Again I cancelled that one.

A couple of genuine excuses but only from those I’ve seen before and since

There and to the left a bit

I've never had anyone cancel on me last minute - got told a week or so beforehand that a planned club visit wouldn't be happening, and wasn't given a reason but accepted it with grace.

Have never cancelled myself, although if I did the reason would be genuine and as far in advance as I was able.

A few years ago I was part of a couples profile on here. We organised 4 meets over our time here, and 2 failed to show.

The first one was a group session with a male group, organised in a hotel room. It had been building up for a month, and we'd even talked on the phone together. On the actual day, we received a text saying it was cancelled, and no reason given. We asked why, and got no response.

The second was a young bloke coming from half hour away in an early hours last minute type of meet. He said he was just leaving, then failed to show. The next day we sent a quick message asking what happened. "I fell asleep" he replied.

I've met a guy last year just before Xmas for a social and then we went to my flat - carried on chatting, nothing happened. We agreed to meet up again. I was off on holiday abroad in few days after and he offered to take me to the airport in the early morning. I haven't heard from him at all so I decided to take an airport shuttle - bus stop was thankfully just around the corner. I got a text from him 5min before he was due to arrive that his car was smashed into and one door was hanging.. but he's happy to collect me from airport on my way back. Considering this was Xmas period - I somehow doubt he would have his car fixed in 3 days over the festive period...

Waste of my time he was. I've learned never to rely on men here who offer to help as I've been let down a few times.

But yes there are so crappy excuses out there but better than just a no show.

We were going to meet a couple at a club who didn't show or communicate why until the next day.

The reason given was that the lady's purse had been stolen on the way and the man's phone had adult site-blocking on his phone by his provider so couldn't use Fab to tell us.

Fortunately we weren't that invested in it and had a really good night anyway.

I’ve been stood up way too many times with no excuses given.

Some excuses I’ve had though include falling over and landing in hospital, don’t know where you live (even though he’d been to my house twice before), fell asleep, didn’t know we’d planned to meet (even though it had been previously confirmed), was on it all night and slept all day....the list goes on.

Only time I’ve cancelled on someone was because I started my period unexpectedly early. I’d met this guy twice before and felt really bad cancelling at the last minute
