I really should be tightening my belt. There's loads of stuff I'd like to do and Christmas is just around the corner(sorry about that but it is)!

What do you do to save money?

How would you cut in order to so so?

Do you know every penny that goes in and out?

Is being organised the key?

Brighton - even Hove!

One can live on very little - shops like Aldi and Lidl help, getting up early to walk or catch the bus or cycle instead of a car helps. Heating off and blankets on...

All in all, it’s effective forward planning and a ‘save’ mindset. It’s a miserable existence to do it for long periods though although of course I’m aware some people have no choice.

The first step to saving money is working out exactly where its going by recording every penny you spend & then look at ways you can make it more efficient.

Being organised is always the key

Every single year I swear to myself that i'll stick to predetermined budget and every year I fail miserably!

I think knowing how to spot deals throughout the year and buying way ahead of time works well i've been told

Make notes of what you’re spending and where. You soon realise where you can make cuts.

A coffee on your way to work everyday might cost you £15 a week for example.

Small changes can make big savings

Bulk cook and freeze, don't buy lunches during work - take something with you. Avoid ridiculously priced coffee shops (if that's your thing). Aldi and Lidl are as good as, if not better, than other supermarkets

London St Helier Trier

Radical method I read and is related to FIRE (Financial Independence Retire Early) is to not spend anything for 6 months. No coffees, lunches, dinners etc. Eat at home, packed lunch etc

Build 6 months of running costs in saving s accounts.

Invest in Income producing assets.

Sell anything you don't need.

There are variations on this to suit each persons style, income and needs. There is no one size fits all.

I like that idea of building 6 months of running costs. Coupled with having a real knowledge of ins and outs is a great start.

Plan meals around what you have in the fridge/ freezer/ cupboard. Then only buy what you need for the week.

Ask yourself is the product at twice the price really worthy it, or are you paying for fancy packaging (says he who usually buys jam in octagonal jars!).

Take own lunch.

If you insist on real coffee in the day (if possible) have a cafetière at work.

Walk or cycle where practical.

Some good advice on here.

Look at regular direct debits that come out every month and do you still use them (gym membership) or need them (sky etc). Cancel all the ones you don't need, you might be surprised how much they cost.

Also look at switching utilities, water, electricity etc.

Get all your monthly payments to go out on payday. Then you actually know how much you have left. Some bills vary from month to month which can really mess things up.

Open another bank account and use it for spending money.

Calculate bills and outgoings, then transfer whatever's left of your wage into the spending account.

Keep a piece of paper with the balance (like on old bank books) and mark off all receipts and cash you take out. Note what they money was spent on.

Makes you aware of how much money you have to spend and what you're spending it on.

"I really should be tightening my belt. There's loads of stuff I'd like to do and Christmas is just around the corner(sorry about that but it is)!

What do you do to save money?

How would you cut in order to so so?

Do you know every penny that goes in and out?

Is being organised the key?"

For me the key is visibility. Know what you income is. Know what your unavoidable outgoings are (mostly bills). Know what the difference is. That's what you can spend. Reduce it by an amount that you intend to save.

Do that sort of thing and it can help a lot.
