You're 55 and fit you're not old. You are at the age when you can do what you like without having to worry about fitting in with others ideas etc. Embrace your age learn to love the positives. I spent years thinking I was old and over the hill it's only recently I decided to start living the life I want. So that rather than looking back in 10 years thinking I wish I had done that when I ws in my 40s hopefully now I can smile and think ye I did it. |

Ye but I felt like you do a year ago. Then I realised why live in the past live for now none of us can stop getting older but we sure as hell can have fun doing it and hopefully look back in another 10 years years and not regret having lived life when we were in our 40s or 50s etc. We get one shot of it so I intend to now make the best of it. Ye I can't leap over gates the way I could years ago and I have aches I never had when I was younger. Feck me I even have a hip replaced lol But I'm determined to enjoy life now. |

Every single decade has its upside and downside.
I agree that once you hit 50 and then 60 you are inclined to reassess your priorities but as my dad who is in his mid nineties says "you gotta live til you die" and he's right. Once you start thinking in terms of too old or too late you're finished. |

I'd say you petty much get to do what you want when you want to but I've been doing that for the last twenty or more years anyway.
Downside is your body doesn't repair itself as quickly as it once did. I still crash motorcycles on & off road & it takes considerably longer to fully recover.

Ha ha I’m looking forward to creating hell if my kids put me in a home!!
I’m starting on them now so they aren’t shocked at anything or everything that I do or say...
I feel great, can do lots of things although there is still a to do list, and not having monthlies anymore is sheer bliss!!
Can’t wait for turning the corner into another decade and seeing what life has to offer.. something not everyone can...
I think the OP looks great. X

The first time I ticked the 60 and over box for free prescriptions felt a bit odd. Receiving birthday cards with 60 on was even worse. Now I don't think about it. Don't feel 60 and concentrating on enjoying retirement. Have joined various interest groups, met lots of lovely people and happy with my lot. Life is what you make it |

Upside - I dont look at myself being 50, my head tells me I am a lot younger and I still get active, have a great social life and planning a sky dive next year. I do have less inhibitions and as others have said, sex is great too. It is just a number.
Downside - I am out of more age ranges on here than I ever was |

Go for that skydive..you won the regret it and believe me..it's not age range that defeats me...I was born with the clastick great body shame about the face..always looked like I d stood in front of fast moving train so endless supply of bags needed and on upside age never affected my beauty..lolol |

Apart from the presumption that I can no longer have sex, I like being over 50..still fit and active, no direct dependents, more time for my own activities, people assume I know what I'm talking about, it's great.. |

Getting older, being of a certain age means there is less time left. However that might give one the impetus to do things now and not put them off...grab those opportunities and not procrastinate.
We should at this stage have more freedom, kids having left home. Maybe a little more financially stable.
Hopefully by this point we understand ourselves better, accept ourselves, know what is important and not sweat the small stuff.

What's with all this weeping and wailing? Do something about it, leave your comfort zone and surround yourself with young people they will keep you young.
I frequent the trendy bars in Leeds where I imagine the average age is around 25yo. I don't go to pull I go to enjoy myself and I have found nothing but respect from the youngsters.
Don't be afraid of feeling uncomfortable. |

There are no plus sides to being old.

I now actually feel ill myself.

Mate I had kids late, youngest is eight so we haven't got a prayer of ever having "real" money even though we became mortgage free this year.
One of the reasons we moved here was it took away the wanderlust, now most of what we want is on our doorstep.

I can echo this.
And I'm not mortgage free. Had my youngest at 48, I'm 20 years out of sync with others my age, so will have to work til I die.

I feel it’s more of a mindset thing. You get ‘young’ people who are old before their time simply because of their attitude to life and the reverse is the same, stop focusing on the numbers and get on with the living is my attitude. When it comes to age I always tell people I’m old enough to know better but young enough not to care. |

Downside: Aches and pains and boobs going south.
Upside: Having the best of times and being happier than have ever been.
For me life really did start in 40s
