There used to be some good news around. Particularly at the end of every news broadcast, the presenter would say something like ; “and finally”; and then go on to talk about a quirky little good news story such as a kitten being rescued from a tree or someone found a long lost relative etc. I mean there must be good news stories somewhere but all we get is Trump’s latest fuck up, Brexit, job losses, wars, despot nations on the verge of nuclear weapons and weather disasters/ global warming. Let’s face it; the world is fucked. Thank god for alcohol, sex, and rock and roll. |

Yes I remember, and I'm sure that there must still be some good news but the world is so wrapped up with Brexit and global warming that we don't get to hear it |

I stopped watching the news years ago. I read it, but I don’t watch any because I hate the sensationalising, the narrow views and lack of any feel good stuff. I like feel good stuff. - Mrs |

My theory is this ........ and it's unsubstantiated but not impossible.
The media exaggerates and reinforces negative news. They make the world seem far more hostile than it is.
They show (actual ) bomb blasted children, beaten pensioners, starving families, tortured animals, abhorrent crimes against the public, mass unemployment and then .........
Finally here is fluffy the kitty playing with is little friend froggy woggy awwwwwwwwwwwww.......
Maybe people complained that it's inappropriate. |

Or when Facebook used to be about posting pictures of Cats / dogs / memes / jokes / songs.
I genuinely believe it is about a policy that Adam Curtis calls: The Power of Nightmares.
Keep people afraid of foreigners, global terrorism, Brexit, unemployment and you can control them by promising to protect them.
Don't read the news, don't watch the news, don't use Facebook and your life actually improves. I've done it. |

Last night they showed Rod Stewart surprising a couple at their wedding in Vegas.
Apparently their "big day had been ruined" by the Thomas Cook collapse but they'd somehow managed to get to Vegas. To put the tin lid on it Sir Rod rocked up and serenaded the bride while almost completely ignoring her husband .
I have always like RS and it was a very sweet gesture but the way it was presented on the news made me chuckle.
Our local news always has a feel good story on it, especially when Fred and Sangeeta present |

I agree with the above.
I recall reading years ago that when only positive stories are promoted then 'readership' falls. This is not good for media pockets.
'If it bleeds it leads' ..... there are studies that show we are compelled to prick up our ears to danger / negativity. It's a matter of preservation I guess. We are hard wired to it.
