I agree it's the latter. But also think women have better impulse control when it comes to sex, so it dictates fewer of their decisions/behaviours.

Definitely the latter.

The fact that people need laws in order to not sexualise or impose their requirements onto a woman is ridiculous! The concept that a woman can be in control of her own body, desires or sexual journey is still a strange one to many people so it is definitely societal.

Going by the Kik me threads or wank groups, I think men have more urges than women. Probably why more men generally look for sex elsewhere due to partners going off sex due to female libido dwindling.

Same. I would have probably had a lot more sex in my younger years if it wasn't so socially frowned upon as I always considered myself a "good girl" and that was kind of at odds with the incredibly horny young woman I grew into which it shouldn't have been if I wasn't hurting anyone in my pursuit of sex.

Its hard to say but I would slightly go with men being more horny if thats the same thing. When a guy gets horny reason just goes out of the windows and they all go dambusters with only one objective and its emptying their balls.

Is that conditioning as well, though? Learning early and for minor things that it's a bad idea, whereas some men don't?

Women generally have a far greater appetite or the potential to have, mainly because of their anatomy although it’s generally more suppressed due to social conditioning. I’d say men are more impulsive whereas women have a more mentally balanced approach but generally a far superior appetite.

That’s just my opinion though, I just checked and I am not a woman so my view is limited

I think men are perhaps more physically driven than women in that there are higher numbers of men than women who would engage in anonymous sex like escorts or glory holes. They seem to need the physical release more than women.

Women I think tend to think more about sex emotionally and are more driven to shared experiences than the physicality.

Or maybe it's just all the same but we show ourselves to be how society expects? I have no idea.

Ach. I'm not sure. Even in the framing of the question it's ascribing sexual, gender based stereotypes. I think that yes, there are societal expectations on how a man is to perform - to be interested in sex and to be a stud, whereas a woman is seen as being a slut and should be classy. Women are often taught to keep quiet and men to vocalise their needs. Media enforces these beliefs constantly (an interesting example being the different ratings given to acts of oral on men and women in film).

I think if we stopped looking at sexuality in terms of genders and stereotypes (women wanting x, y and z in terms of sex and men wanting/needing x) and more an individualistic approach it would help a lot. Combating the socioreligous belief structure is a bit more difficult though.

I'm not sure if any of that makes sense. It's late!

I was talking to a male friend recently about how single men can at times use sex as a way to get their needs for intimacy and connection met as well as their sexual needs. Women on the other hand are often taught it is more acceptable to have your sexual needs met by someone you have an emotional connection with. I think in reality we are all seeking roughly the same things and have the same amount of variation in that regardless of gender, it's just some things are considered more acceptable for men and others for women.

Men are definately more sexually promiscuous than women because bioligically men are designed to spread their seed, whereas women are designed to choose someone that can provide for their children. However, I dont think that necessarily means that women aren't as horny as men. Yes I think there is social conditioning but there is also biological explanationa for different behaviours. I think its a mixture and they both feed into eachother...

I would say some of them are. Some women don't need/want to have sex as often as their parter would like it. In fact I know of a couple who didn't have sex for a few years after they had a child. Loss of libido, body changes, stress. I don't have kids myself but I think women are more likely to put needs of their child over their own sexual needs but guys just want to have sex no matter what. Kudos to those guys who understand the situation and won't pressure their OH into anything.

I saw a tweet recently that said "Its hard to be a slut in a world full of men constantly cock blocking themselves."

There's some truth to it. I do think we as women have a lot more barriers that need breaking down to make us feel comfortable enough to have casual sex but also a lot of men clearly have no idea at all how to approach women for casual sex. Which isn't surprising really as most of the advice you ever hear is only ever about how to pursue women for relationships or that awful "pick up" stuff. I.e. how to trick a woman into having sex with you

Because following on the theme of social concepts for a very long time the man had to be ‘manly’ and act certain ways too! And going back to more primitive times it was very much the same. To some it’s imasculinating to be outpaced, also from a psychological perspective it hits the ‘not adequate’ button for lack of a better term.

However, it should cut both ways as times change.

Perhaps I'm strange in the fact that I've never felt like that, it's not an urge to release it as its often phrased. Sometimes I crave a person's touch but that's different and I doubt, gender specific.

As others have said though, I do think that impulse control (wherever that comes from, internal/external) and the acceptance of actually expressing that want or need is a bit part in that.

Thinking a little abstractly, I remember how much teen boys talked about masturbating, whereas girls and even young women never even admitted quietly with partners to having done it. Girls are taught from a very early age that sex is bad and boys aren't.

That's precisely the point I'm trying to make

There is of course individual variation in things like sex drive and need for emotional connection to have sex, etc but I think that variation exists among the population as a whole, regardless of gender. However we are taught that "men are more sexually driven and women are more emotionally driven" and I do think those things have an effect on how we express ourselves and how we are perceived.

That's an interesting point of view. The species' we are most closely related to often mate with multiple males while fertile to increase their chances of conception. They also raise children as a group. The human penis is also designed to displace sperm left behind by other males.

Haha yes every 40 second is a tad extreme but maybe if they averaged out the few hours over the day...

Hey leave my 3 hour edging sessions alone! That's not how averages work

I was talking about myself . And don't tell me you've never seen people use skewed averages to make the statistics fit their agenda "

Is that like narrowing your sample size of veri’s so you sound like you’re slightly better than a ladywank?

"I would say some of them are. "

I can understand the loss of libido after having a child. Having a child has a lot more of a physical impact on a woman than it does on men (obviously). Things should eventually recover though. Other factors often contribute such as differences in expectations in things like childcare and housework, but that's a whole other can of worms I won't open

Very admirable. It isn't easy.I think the latter! I read a quote just today that said "most men think they like sex until they meet a woman who wants to fuck at least six times a day"."

"I agree it's the latter. But also think women have better impulse control when it comes to sex, so it dictates fewer of their decisions/behaviours.

Again though are we just conditioned to have greater impulse control when it comes to sex? We don't seem to when it comes to things like dieting or smoking?

I'm sure that's a big part of it. Maybe biology too though, and a caveman need to 'empty their balls' as it's so nicely put often . If I physically needed to release something from my body I'd probably be more frantic too.

Haha! It doesn't build up yano? Their balls won't explode "

Haha I know, just tiredly thinking out loud that more impulsivity could be subconsciously down to the biology of spreading seed/impregnating, but then be compounded by there being less social pressure on men to suppress urges.

"I think personally its the latter.

Although it does very much depend on the individual.

Sex drives are high in both men and women.

I've experienced both sides of that coin in the past"

Agreed. Both high and low sex drives exist in any way you categorise people and none are wrong or a failure for it.

"So to put it bluntly... women are more sexual and men want to be.

Interesting. I have to say in previous relationships where I have had a higher sex drive than the man, they often haven't liked that very much.

However, it should cut both ways as times change."

Absolutely. All of this. Men are hypersexualised and therefore there is a lot of pressure on them to always be sexual, up for sex and to "perform" well.

Just going to drop in ‘contraception’

Artificial hormones can play a big part as they change the natural hormone cycle.

Absolutely. It goes even further back than that. Young boys are allowed to run around naked and have their hands in their pants but young girls are told these things are unacceptable from a very young age while seeing boys being allowed to. From a very young age we are fed the message that our bodies are less acceptable.

From my experience though it’s quite simple to overcome these barriers. Generally through two things; time and exploration. Take the time to learn the mind of the person you are with and you’ll both be liberated and pleased sexually and mutually. Frequency can be overcome by intensity, just have to invest the time in making it more fruitful and most importantly natural.

I've not read the entire thread so sorry if I'm saying something already said. At a basic level as humans, like most animals, we have two basic drivers, to survive and to reproduce ie. To continue our species. So we have drives that tell us we are hungry, thirsty, too hot, too cold and also the need for sex. In men the latter is pretty much a constant, in women its at times when they are most likely to reproduce. So men are officially hornier, most of the time, than women. Same with most of the animal kingdom. That's just scientific findings so don't bite my head off

"Going by the Kik me threads or wank groups, I think men have more urges than women. Probably why more men generally look for sex elsewhere due to partners going off sex due to female libido dwindling.

Or do men just more openly express those urges?

Women's libidos tend to dwindle in relationships for complex reasons that aren't always inevitable. Men and women have affairs in marriages pretty equally.

I know my sex drive never keeps up with any men in my Long relationships. My friends are the same. I’m just going by the men on here always asking for sex chat and being horny beasts. I used to get loads of guys texting me on a Sunday morning with the hangover horn. I don’t think women pest men in the same way so much. that depends who you meet!!

Never. Mine is always low. I’ve met someone from here who is similar to me and it’s so nice not to feel like I have to have sex all the time. "

All levels of sex drive should be acceptable and not shamed. You are absolutely fine as you are and nobody should make you feel otherwise

From back in the day I can remember the phrase, lie back and think of England!

Women weren't really thought of as enjoying sex but more of it's your husbands right...give it him. Now I'm happy to say we have come along way and it is no longer shocking that a woman has wants and needs and that they own it.

As for who owns it more I don't really know.
