Don't take it as a big deal. It's just a test.

Relax and imagine it as a pratice drive.

A little tip:

The examiner will probably ask if you're OK.

Be honest and tell them you're nervous.

Hopefully they will take this into account whilst driving.

Mine said to me, after admitting I was nervous: I think you'll do OK.

That calmed me down and I passed.

Good luck.

I passed ma car test on 5 Dec 1981, and ma bike test 10 days later, both first time

I did clip the kerb on my way out of the test centre though , but the examiner said not to worry about it and I passed with flying colours after that little mishap

Good luck for later OP

"What did you do to calm your nerves "

Remember that the test is for a limited time and once you’re driving, the time will fly by. Don’t rush the manoeuvres, take you’re time as it eats into the total time. Don’t rush anything and focus on killing time in a reasonable way.

That’s what I did and it helped.

mis-types and auto corrects leads cock leeds

If this is your first test its an unknown. Most folk get nervous about unknown situations.

Imagine your driving examiner naked...oh wait thats for public speaking.

The things you'll be tasked asked to do are skills you have gained and learned through your lessonsy, listen carefully to the instructions you're given and rely on the knowledge you have.

Diagonally Parked in a Parallel Universe

For a few months after my 17th birthday I drove daily a 50 mile round trip to and from my dad's business, where I would leave my car and get on my motorbike to ride a couple of miles to my workplace.

My dad was, and still is, the world's biggest critic of everything, so after having 2 formal lessons with a driv8ng school I took, and passed, my test.

I figured even a driving examiner wouldn't be as critical as my dad, and I was right.

He must have taught me well, though, as I passed my test in August 1981 and have never had an accident; the only insurance claims being for chipped windscreens. I regularly drive over 50,000 miles per year.

You can't do worse than me I passed my car test third time.

First time I rushed my 3 point turn and hit the curb, second time the car had a service the day before my test and I couldn't get used to it.

As for my motorbike test, I passed that second time. First time I had no idea where I was or which set of traffic lights I needed to look at, till I got told it was green for me to go.

You will be fine, pray for some res traffic lights. They take a few minutes each to cycle through, that is time you can sit and relax.

Birmingham

I failed three times on the trot, so by the fourth attempt it was a breeze

...

Seriously though. Learn from my mistakes, every single failed test was a flawless, perfect run except for one stupid mistake each time, which was always a "major". Each time I was concentrating so hard on making sure I didn't forget any of the little details- signalling at the exact right time, checking my mirrors constantly, worrying about where my hands are on the wheel, that I'd not be paying enough attention to something more important. For example, not noticing a change of speed limit because I was really concentrating on changing gear smoothly because the last change was a bit lumpy.

Basically, try and remember not to fixate on small details. You're not going to fail for grinding thr gears a bit or turning on the wipers instead of the indicators. Or even messing up your manoeuvre, I made a right pig's ear of my reverse park on the test I actually passed.

Your "little" things (signals, mirrors, gear changes, etc etc) will be pretty natural to you now. Trust yourself to do that all automatically without giving it too much thought, and pay attention to the road, other vehicles, anticipation & awareness. They're much more concerned about you driving safely and confidently and being aware of your surroundings than whether your clutch control is on point.

Near Wells

I passed my bike test in 1981 and car test in 1987,Both were easy I thought at the time.

Last year I did my class 2 HGV, but first I had to do a theory and hazard perception test. I was very nervous about those but probably with a bit of luck passed both first time.

A couple of months later, I did a weeks HGV training and took the test on the Friday. I wasn't to nervous as if I failed it wouldn't really matter to much.

During the test, I forgot to wind the window down to look out when pulling away from the side of the road and banged my head on it. That made the examiner laugh, then I tried to pull away in neutral!

Somehow I passed without any faults??
