"Well I don't have a special someone so I may be,I don't know yet."

You've got children though right?

That's lovely if you have - that's what it's about.

I have just found out that my only family left wont be hosting this year.

So I'll be alone.

Its OK I'm just shocked and upset that they have decided this in September!

Fuck it - I'll make my own fun

Don’t fret it. I’ve spent more christmases alone than in company and it really is what you make of it. If you sit there wallowing in self pity you’ll have a shit time but if you’re determined that it’ll be a laugh that’s what it will be, just depends what sort of person you are. You usually come across as a positive person.

Have they said why they won't be hosting? You could go away and have a fun holiday. Or host them?

Go abroad for Christmas. Amazing. Lying in the sun, not a piece of tinsel in sight. Bliss

Its OK I'm used to being alone - I'm not going to wallow - I'll spend the day at work with elderly people that are also alone.

At least I'll get paid.

Double time

I'll be alone this Xmas. My kids will be with their dad for a full week over the festivities and my parents have booked themselves on a cruise.

No idea what I'm doing - I can't afford to go on holiday.

I will be, again. Hard the first time but only because everything is geared towards big family things, sometimes forgotten not everyone has that but hey, its not actually that bad ....eat when/what you want, please yourself...go out/stay in. I've helped out at homeless shelters etc much more rewarding than I ever dreamt could be

It’s not *alone* but I think for the first time since I was born we won’t be having Christmas at my Granny and Grandads house. It’s always been the routine, my mum, dad, two sisters and brother go up, me and C go and so does my auntie, uncle and two cousins.

But my Granny hasn’t been well for a few years now and she enjoys hosting less and less. She’s also stubborn and won’t let us help out as much as we’d like to.

So I’m a bit lost.

A few people I know volunteer on christmas day and really enjoy it. My eldest has done it as he hasn't enjoyed christmas since my dad passed away a few years ago so now he goes hill climbing or does voluntary work.

I used to travel 6 months plus a year.

Always away for winter.

It's a long story but Im back now - most of my immediate family have passed.

It's just me and a distant sister and her family.

No friends left here either.

Its OK - I'm used to being alone x

I’m trying to think of it like that - but I’m still sad. If I’m not up at my Granny’s then I think it’ll just be me, C and O. I wouldn’t want to do anything else. C’s parents always invite us but C doesn’t really enjoy Christmas so doesn’t want to spend the whole day with them, and neither would I.

Meh! First world problems

Oh you should! I've done it for the last 4 years, with my children for two of them. It's changed Christmas completely for all of us; we love it. We fed 200 people last year.

We aren’t sure what we are doing yet but the idea of a Xmas without the drama of family, and the noise and expense sounds lovely!

Maybe all those Fabsters who are alone should organise a Xmas fab get together...

Christmas can be a horrid time, being forced to travel around seeing relatives, eating and drinking just for the sake of it and small talk about careers and wealth with family "friends". I always try to make sure it's just my little girl and I on Christmas day though - it's our day and I'll be fucked if I'm gonna sit around playing scrabble with the outlaws.....

(I know its Jesus's day.... )

We are a bit like that as well. His Mum has a new partner and won't be hosting. As she has done for last 23 years we have been married. So feels a bit strange.
