What is their aim?
Why do they go from home to home talking about god?
Is there a crisis in religious population and they're trying to recruit more people?

My friend is a Jehovah’s Witness and she said she absolutely hates going door to door, and can totally understand why people get annoyed or ignore them, as she does the same when they come knocking at her door |

Leave them to it ... one in a hundred might appreciate that knock.
My response is 'no thank you' ... the same as for the charity knockers, the 'organic box' lot, the canvassers, the window salespeople etc etc BUT you know what? I dread the day when all those people are not around and we are all sat at home ordering the latest shit from Amazon and waiting for our Tesco drop, plugged into our augmented reality holiday or sexual experiences without interaction with other human beings ...
First they came for the religious door knockers , and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a religious door knocker appreciator. etc

They are usually well dressed ,very polite , seem to have a very calm persona and don’t appear stressed like the rest of us . They probably don’t drink or smoke or swear and they are not prone to violence . They follow the Ten Commandments so don’t steal or cheat on their partners etc.
Can anyone argue against my suggestion that the world would be a much better place if more of us were like them ? |

There usually polite people who are kind to one another and don't follow any religion.
Religion doesn't see define your characteristics as a human.
And like I said before, I'm not saying they're bad, I'm just trying to find out why they do it. |

I think it's part of their religion that they have to actively try to "save" the sinners, I don't know the ins and outs of it but a Jehovas Witness once told me that, they're not allowed to be passive worshipers. |

I think that's why they're called Jehovah's witnesses, because they have to bear witness to their religion by trying to convert people. I have heard of them being very kind to people. |

My mother is on the surface a wonderful person, polite, teaches Sunday school, gives to her church and community. But she’s actually a really horrible person to her family and friends. So nah, the surface tells nothing. Religion means nothing about the core morality of a person.
I don’t steal, I don’t cheat, and swearing makes me f*cking interesting and I meet the best people in smoking areas. Not a drinker but happy corral my d*unk friends or lost d*unk people to safety. . - Mrs |

I had a very religious up bringing.
Quote scripture at me, and I'll quote back another that contradicts it.
They don't like being questioned.
Just throw more blurb at you, I questioned there interpretations & they couldn't beat me
Plus, telling them, IF I was one of them, neither me or one of my sons would be here, so neither would my younger children
Asking how they could justify a mother & unborn child dying.
Asking how they could live with the death of an innocent baby on their conscience?
Was standing by, doing nothing akin to murder?

I admire them , the last time I came into conversation with such a person was in the street , not at home , a young American lady approached me and started telling me about her beliefs in God , I chatted for a while , she was then wanting me to invite her to my home to continue the conversation and so she could show me some literature . ( this being only after about 2or3 minutes ) I declined saying " no Thankyou" she persisted adding she could come round later that day . At which point I said " Thankyou very much but I am really not interested " and I turned away and left her ... This is the bit where I admire both that lady and others who do the same .. I am guessing that my refusal not to carry on the conversation was probably one of the more polite refusals she had that day , yet they keep on doing it day after day , just by looking at the responses on here you can see that they are not welcome with open arms , but they keep on day after day , their rejection time after time must be demoralising . I am not arguing about what they do or do not believe I am merely saying that they must really believe in what they say to be so demoralised time after time but to keep on going .. And that is why they have my admiration |

Jesus H Christ, admiration! They've been told to do it. Do you think anyone in their right mind would continue to do something that they rejected for every single time. Lemmings comes to mind! |

Absolutely fabulous people.. don’t get many where I live but great to have a philosophical discussion with about the existence of god.
Like listen to them about their religion and what they are trying to sell and then poke holes in their theological thinking.
Great fun .. |

Matthew 24, christians are instructed to go from door to door, the churcg used to do it and then stopped early 19th century i believe wasnt popular amongst the congregation, JW do thos because they love people and believe they have an important message, believe it or not they aren't there to convert you or annoy you, they are there to answer peoples questions, this time you may not have had one bit next time you may!
They aren't stupid people and give of their time freely ,one i know is a leading researcher and lecturer at durham uni ,if you google him you will find him with presidents and orher high officials getting awards for his work!
Being the minority is brave! Respect from all the way! |

Well that sounds risky as heck a young woman trying to invite herself around to a strangers house,do they not worry about that. Do her fellow worshippers not worry for her, what if something happens. I presume she would have someone with her as well. |

To find that one person who might benefit from human interaction maybe
I'm very much a humanist so dont agree with the principal of what they are pushing, but on this level that person to person interaction sits ok with my humanistic principals |

The reason is because in The Bible it says go out and spread the good news.
They believe in The Bible so in their eyes they are simply doing what they believe in.
They are never rude and accept a refusal politely, so what harm can they do? |

Had 2 jehovah witness's knock at the door last week, so I invited them in and asked if they'd like a cup of tea, which they said yes to..
Went to the kitchen brewed the tea, put everything on tray plate of biscuits the works, returned to the living room, poured them their tea, offered them a biscuit, and said "so tell us about this jehovah then".
They said they don't know anything they'd never got this far before..

Why do they do it? They're spreading the word as it says in their bible.
Why do they keep doing it in the face of such contempt and rudeness? Faith.
Can you drive a horse and cart through the vast majority of the bible? Yes. It's not one connected record, more a collection of a number of different sources, many of which contradict another section of their good book.
Are they rude? Not in my experience.
Am I rude to them? No. I've always found a smile, a shake of the head and a polite "no thanks" to be adequate. |
