Yep. When all the parts of my life feel in balance. It's difficult to achieve and often fleeting (partly due to my own perfectionist nature) but I'm better at recognising and appreciating it than I ever have been.

Contentment is a strange one.
I’m content with life in general.
Work - I hate my job. Actively looking to move companies but I’m still content overall.
Work brings me down so I find ways to bring me up, personally I am at my happiest when always busy - so I’ll either be in the gym or out doing things with friends. |

Contentment is a state of mind, you get there by appreciating the very real and important things in life.
That first early morning cup of coffee, looking up at the sky at night, laughter, and great sex... appreciate what is around you |

I would say I feel content most of the time. Obviously I face difficulties and challenges and have some very bad days but on the whole I'm very content with my lot in life. |

"Low expectations; the route to contentment.
I disagree - it's all the sweeter when your higher expectations are realised "
Lower expectations are more likely to be realised. In today's society we're led to believe that we can have everything when this is simply not true.
This, i believe, is the cause of much of the unhappiness and mental instability people are experiencing now. |

Couldn’t agree more ladies, if we learn how to sit with our emotions, even the negative ones, we become empowered not over powered by those strong emotions x
Me too.
I think mindfulness should be compulsory. "

"Is contentment a feeling you get very often? Under what circumstances? How do you work towards it? "
Yes it is. The circumstances vary but it's usually when things are going right, moving to the seaside helped too.
I suppose you work towards it by identifying what you really want from life and trying to achieve it. |

Interesting take on it. Do you mean realistic expectations, rather than low expectations? |

Yes there is a brilliant mindfulness programme for schools and quite a few are working it into the school week. |

Contentment for me is not a constant feeling but more attached to a situation or moment, which validated a decision I made or a moment that just makes me smile
Life is made up of little pockets of contentment, how many you have is how you view things around you and what you see as important
Right now I’m content with memories and a decision I made |

Yes, realistic as opposed to low, though by their nature they are lower than unrealistic ones. Apologies for the error. |

No need to apologise. I totally agree, then! Everyone's realistic is different. |
